Why do you think that? Does he seem not so interested in playing for BYU?

both of his coaches (head, and oc) want him to go out of state. this is not anything against byu, more about personal development. a leave home, and find yourself kind of thing. jay drew quotes one of them in his sl trib blog:

i don't want to speak for the kid, but from what i understand, byu was his top choice initially. now, while there is still hope, i expect we won't get him. pity, because he is exactly the kind of kid bronco is looking for.

I see in the article that he qoutes the Asst Coach as encouraging him to go out of state. Where are you hearing that the HC wants him to go out of state too? Is there a source or do you have some personal connections?

Had BYU signed Timpviews 4A defensive player of the year Dominique Moe(who they told to walk-on) Xavier would've followed his first cousin. They both grew up together and made a pack to follow each other to (BYU) which was their first choice but no one came knocking except for good ol Ken Schmidts of Dixie College and gave him the oppurtunity to play football as well as baseball. Now I doubt it that Xavier would go to Dixie College but I do know that he will not go to BYU either. His Family and coaches on the other hand are pushing for Xavier to go elsewhere because of the politics that Dominique went on during this recruiting season. Dominique Moe was hands down the greatest defensive player in the state of Utah yet because of his height 5'11 he never even got a look and YES he was faster, stronger, and smarter then Lyn Katoa.

So much better that Katoa.... that lesser teams like Utah or Utah State didn't sniff?

We can't take every package deal that comes along.....Not many players are good enough to deserve two scholarships. (i.e. - - -If you didn't think that the staff knew that Kedron Paul was going to be a nonqualifier; then I have some great Yahoo stock I'd like to sell you).

I went to junior day at Missouri 5 years ago with Tony Temple (who at the time played for top 2-3 nationally ranked Rockhurst high school-I was the equiv of his big brother) his cousin was a 6'2" bruiser of a safety but ran at best a 4.6-4.7 40. Tony at the time was considered the 2nd best back in the country behind Adrian Peterson. They offered his cousin a scholarship and Tony signed too. His cousin never set foot on the field......

It's just not a good way to recruit and costs a valuable scholarship. Is it done? Sure.... But it's the exception, not the rule

If a kid is immature enough to think that they're good enough to deserve a scholarship for themselves and another for a tweener of a relative or friend; well they don't realize that the other offer stands just long enough to hook the big fish; and any scholarship can be pulled in the future; even for Tony Temples cousin.....

What BYU did was diffuse the politics by not getting involved in them. The potential drama and hurt feelings > going to Dixie and proving you can play at the D1 level.

I'm not saying that they should've done a package deal but it would've been a lot more easier to recruit Xavier had BYU offered Moe a full ride. They were talking to him during the season and even gave him tickets to all their home games and he really thought he was a shoe in but when they didn't offer he was heartbroken. Utah did the same.

If this is true, then that is ridiculous. I can understand wanting to play together. But if no D-1 schools offered him, shouldn't that be a sign? Unless there is a school that you are not mentioning. If Xavier doesn't come because of that, then he is not the type of player that BYU would want. Hopefully, if this is true, he realizes the folly in his reasoning and comes back to BYU.
