I'm not saying that they should've done a package deal but it would've been a lot more easier to recruit Xavier had BYU offered Moe a full ride. He wouldn't be the 1st kid to go to Dixie and come to BYU later and star. Let's hope he's mature enough to understand that he wouldn't be the 1st to do so and if BYU is his dream school, they'll be there if he's good enough to play at the D1 level.

So much better that Katoa.... that lesser teams like Utah or Utah State didn't sniff?

We can't take every package deal that comes along.....Not many players are good enough to deserve two scholarships. (i.e. - - -If you didn't think that the staff knew that Kedron Paul was going to be a nonqualifier; then I have some great Yahoo stock I'd like to sell you).

I went to junior day at Missouri 5 years ago with Tony Temple (who at the time played for top 2-3 nationally ranked Rockhurst high school-I was the equiv of his big brother) his cousin was a 6'2" bruiser of a safety but ran at best a 4.6-4.7 40. Tony at the time was considered the 2nd best back in the country behind Adrian Peterson. They offered his cousin a scholarship and Tony signed too. His cousin never set foot on the field......

It's just not a good way to recruit and costs a valuable scholarship. Is it done? Sure.... But it's the exception, not the rule

If a kid is immature enough to think that they're good enough to deserve a scholarship for themselves and another for a tweener of a relative or friend; well they don't realize that the other offer stands just long enough to hook the big fish; and any scholarship can be pulled in the future; even for Tony Temples cousin.....

What BYU did was diffuse the politics by not getting involved in them. The potential drama and hurt feelings > going to Dixie and proving you can play at the D1 level.

I like the other way around. Offering Chambers one scholarship, and getting 5 players out of it

isn't dixie a 4-year school now? i think we are down to snow as a jc pipeline.

by the way, i thought moe was real good, but from what i heard his size was the deal killer, and 5-11 is generous. he is tuff, and big hitter, but an inside backer has to take on o-linemen. imho mike alisa was the timpwview lb'er we couldn't miss out on, and we didn't. we was better then, not only katoa, but every other lb'er i was last year.

Man, I've been out of Utah for a while now (last time i thought of Dixie, it was Scott Young coming to the Y). He could always go on a mission and go anywhere he wanted afterwards; but if he's going to Dixie, you'd assume he's staying...otherwise why not JUCO then D1?
Apparently Dixie isn't that good either.

My daughter is a trainer for their football team. She told me that even though they academicly are a 4 year school they only have a 2 year sports program. Maybe that will change but for now they still compete at the juco level in football.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought I was going nuts when they said it was 4 yr non juco football.

Although that schedule above would appear that they're playing non-juco teams so ....?
