You're right. UNLV showed up regardless of where the game was played. They do it this time of year - every year.
From Wrubell's blog:
After its win over Utah, UNLV has now advanced to the tourney finals every year the tournament has been staged on the Rebels' home floor (five times in five years--UNLV was ineligible in 2001).

Sure, having the tournament on UNLV's court helps UNLV play better. No question. But why should that mean we play less or not to the potential we can play at? We are better than UNLV. We should show up and play and whether we do so shouldn't be contingent on what court it is. Look at the best teams in the country. They show up and play regardless of where the game is being played at. They don't let the crowd or the refs affect them.
It's easier to point a finger and lay blame on the refs or where the game is played at than it is to blame our team for poor play. If you blame the refs or tournament officials you can still feel good about your team, in fact you can feel closer to the team because you're mad that they got "screwed." It's much harder to accept that your team played bad or under performed.
