Sure, having the tournament on UNLV's court helps UNLV play better. No question. But why should that mean we play less or not to the potential we can play at? We are better than UNLV. We should show up and play and whether we do so shouldn't be contingent on what court it is. Look at the best teams in the country. They show up and play regardless of where the game is being played at. They don't let the crowd or the refs affect them.

It's easier to point a finger and lay blame on the refs or where the game is played at than it is to blame our team for poor play. If you blame the refs or tournament officials you can still feel good about your team, in fact you can feel closer to the team because you're mad that they got "screwed." It's much harder to accept that your team played bad or under performed.

Byu has the longest home winning streak in the nation...PERIOD. If this game was played in Provo. Byu wins.. They did it in easy fashion earlier in the season. And lost to the rebs in vegas also in the regular season. HOME court is an advantage.. Unlv is playing on the same court they practice on, have the most fans and feel more relaxed. Oh and they sleep in their own beds too. For Byu this is a road game. Sleep at a hotel, practice on the the visitors floor etc..
Don't discount UNLV's home court advantage
Unlv plyed good no doubt. But the 6th man plays a big part as well as the mental factor and momentum when your crowd gets behind you.
The MWC is in Vegas for Money, thats it....How much money are they making on ticket sales when Unlv plays in the final and Byu is there too??? The max amount(as far as ticket sales. C.T wants UNLV in the title game for revenue. He also wants BYU there too becasue they travel well. This is all very obvious.
The term Mid-major is exactly what we are until we fix some major issues.

I don't think you guys really understand how much it means to play on the same court that you practice on. Homecourt is more than just the fans. The look of the basket, the feel of the court, the way the ball bounces on that court, the sounds, everything. They make you a different and especially more confident player. I played a lot of pickup and intermural games at BYU-HC's cannon center. I had practiced a lot on that floor and I was confortable there. I played my best ball on that court. I could hit shots and everything. When I played on other courts I didn't feel near as comfortable and it took a while to get used to the subtle differences. BYU should beat UNLV anywhere, but when you play three intense games in three consecutive nights, it sure is tough to overcome those little advantages that the home team has. They could at least play the game at a different venue in LV!

I am not discrediting the home court advantage. I think it totally helps UNLV, but that should not affect how well we play. To say we can beat anyone on our home court is kind of...well...dumb and limiting. If we are to be one of the best teams in the nation we need to play to our potential no matter what court it's on. Did you read Cummard's comments after the game? He didn't whine about it being on UNLV's court he said they didn't come out with enough "energy" and that's why BYU lost, not that it was UNLV's home court and the MWC is so unfair (sniff, sniff, cry, cry).

As you point out it was our third time playing on the court in three days. Sure it's not home court but as far as getting used to subtle differences, we should have been used to those by the third game. Not only that, but we shot pretty well against CSU (our first game of the tourney on that court). Any differences in court ambiance didn't seem to affect us that game. Bottom line, BYU didn't show up to play. Even Cummard admits it.

Sorry Gunk, I have to disagree. What do you expect Cummard to say? He has more class than to make excuses. I guarantee behind close doors you would get a different answer. I am not saying that is why they lost, but after being at the tournament the last 2 years there is an advantage that is undeniable.. Same would be for BYU at the Marriot center. If only BYU could have played them on the first night when the gas tank was still full....

Both Utah and TCU played UNLV better than we did. Both were closer games.

I am not saying UNLV doesn't have an advantage. I have never said that. All I am saying is that shouldn't be our excuse and that's not why we lost the game. We can't control where the game is played. All you can control is how well you play and we didn't play well last night. That's why we lost.

A home court advantage doesn't suddenly give UNLV's center another 5 inches. At 6'11" Trent should have dominated. He should have had twice as many points and rebounds.
