cottonwood high school does have a high opinion of it's sports programs, though only in recient years. daddy cate, who was on the utah football team, has put millions into the school(ie fields, weight rooms, coaches ect). they also pull kids in from all over the valley, and not just for sports. 70% of the school's population are bussed in due to over crowding in west side schools, and excess capacity at chs.
this has created some interesting dilemas for the school. only 1 of the nine starting players on the state champion baseball team lived in the boundry, and several of the star football players are/were also from outside the boundry (including stanley havili). in-boundry students are conflicted as tranfers come into the school and take their spots. do you play for a loser, or sit the bench for a winner.
this may not be a dilema for long. it appears that chs is on the chopping block, and could close due to school district re-alignment in the next few years.
regarding the katoa kid, it is not unreasonable that he hasn't followed byu football. many of the poly's that live in utah come here from cali, or direct from the islands. the article also implies that he is relitively new to football, and is still trying to learn the game.
ps where is the spell check button?????
