What the flying frick does suspending Katoa from "competition" but still allowing him to "practice" until issue is resolved mean? It means nothing....there is NO competition Dan....Egads Dan Hawkins has humiliated himself and is the latest prostitute to winning at the expense of character, teaching, and turning boys into men....I guess the University of Colorado FB team will always be the home of the convicts, the punks, and the perverts....
Last night the local news (I live in Colorado) said that Katoa and the other 3 players arrested over the last few days (all arrests were unrelated) have been held out of spring practice. So either the media didn't get it right (which is entirely possible) or Hawkins had a change of heart (also very possible).
I hope you are right, for Katoa's sake, and the media got it right and what was reported here is not correct. We already have enough Jeramy Stevenses in the world...
Dan Hawkins has not humiliated himself and is certainly no ho. I guarantee that Geer and Katoa will be the recipients of appropriate disciplinary action because that is how Hawkins and Colorado work. To say that Hawkins "is the latest prostitute to winning at the expense of character, teaching, and turning boys into men" is a ridiculous statement. You know nothing about Hawkins, because if you did, you would not have written this garbage. Why don't we let everything play out before we jump to conclusions and judge people so harshly? When it was reported that Katoa would be allowed to practice until the case was resolved, he hadn't been charged with anything. Now he is being charged with second-degree assault and is not practicing, so how about we wait and see what develops further from here? By the way, last year one of CU's starting linebackers was suspended from school for the fall semester because he beat up someone who was messing with one of his friends.
Off the top of my head, didn't BYU have at least two players last year who had scuffles with the law (Hooks and Tonga)? I'm not entirely sure if you can lump Soto with these two, but if you can, that would make at least three players. Also, if I recall correctly, several football players were kicked out of BYU a few years back due primarily to rape allegations. Does this mean that BYU "will always be the home of the convicts, the punks, and the perverts" because the BYU coaches cannot micro manage all of their players? Of course it does not.
It's also interesting to note that the reason Katoa did what he did is because he witnessed one of his friends being shocked with a stun gun. Not that this necessarily justifies his actions, but I think it's safe to say that some of BYU's players would have responded in a similar manner had the same thing happened to one of their friends before their eyes. After all, what would Hooks have done to those water balloon dorks last year had the police not arrived when they did? Also, last time I checked, throwing water balloons at someone is not nearly as serious or as aggravating as victimizing someone with a stun gun.
Katoa had a rough upbringing and was likely doing his best to make a huge adjustment to college life. I hope he learns from his mistake and am confident that Colorado will deal with him appropriately. By the way, out of curiosity, how many of you would do nothing if you witnessed one of your friends being attacked by someone with a stun gun?
