I e-mailed the MWC as well. Said some of the things that Gunk said. Unfortunately I had to experience it first hand .

Thanks, all. Here is the email I wrote to UNLV's athletic director. I'll let you know if I get any responses.

"Mike,

Although I am well aware you have no control over the actions of individuals, as Athletic Director for UNLV you do hold a very public position and are hence able to sway public opinion. Consequently, I am writing to you to let you know how dumbfounded I am at the behavior of UNLV fans at the MWC Men's Basketball Championship game.

I am certainly in favor of spirited, competitive athletic events and even the celebratory rushing of the court or field, but violence and derogatory yells and signs toward a particular religious group are an entirely different matter. I hope at the very least you publicly encourage UNLV students to abstain from such behavior. I, as well as many others I know, will not be attending any more UNLV MWC hosted events."

Alright, I got an e-mail back from Tom Holmoe part of it said this:

Wow! Very cool. Tom will be able to take your letter into his meeting. UNLV or the MWC haven't responded to me. Guess they don't want to admit we're right.

If the comments and actions of the UNLV fans were directed towards homosexuals or Jews, you can bet UNLV would be issuing all sorts of apologies and requiring all incoming freshman to take a diversity class.
