Covey already redshirted his freshman year and Bronco already indicated that he'd be the third stringer.

Obviously, anyone could win the job but apprarently Bronco thinks that a Covey straight off the mish is going to be a better option than a third year walk-on.

I, too, am excited about football. However, I read far enough down this blog to see a report that Majer-@$$ was on The Dan Patrick Show today and remarked to Dan that he picks A&M over BYU and finished by saying "Those magic underwear send me south." What exactly he was saying is unsure other than it was a clear cut shot at a sacred part of our religion. More evidence that political correctness does not extend to us. Nice, eh?

Another classless comment from Majerus. What was Dan Patrick's reaction after the comment was made? I used to listen to Patrick's show occassionally and usually liked what he had to say, so I am curious to how he reacted to this fool.

I read Patrick said something to the effect of - "Careful coach, you're going to get me suspended" and quickly went on to the next topic. Majerus basically took the opportunity of discussing NCAA matchups to take a shot at Mitt Romney, BYU, and the LDS religion

What a fat terd. He was probably working up a sweat just sitting there talking to Dan. I'd like to say I hope he has a heart attack and dies but I'll hold my tongue... and leave it to my fingers.

Thought this was a Spring Football thread. Not a bash session for a long gone Ute basketball coach...

Potkey talked about Munn's leaving for a mission soon. I had always thought he was a no go but I am happy to hear he's answering the call.

Anyone willing to take a stab at the QB/backup outlook for the next few years based on this? Who'd be the transition from Hall to Munns since Hall has 2 years and the likelihood of Munns being ready then after a mission seems at best, dicey?

Honestly I think Covey will redshirt and McCuen will be the 3rd stringer.

I'd guess Munns will be involved in the spring to get him familiarized with the program and ready to compete when he returns.

Covey has already used his RS year before his mission. I think Covey will either become the 3rd string QB or be moved to another position, like DB again. It appears that Coach Mendenhall hopes that his ability will outshine McCuen's. Mendenhall implied earlier that if Covey doesn't become at least a backup QB that they would likely be looking at recruiting JC QBs to add depth next year. Lark is serving a mission now and Munns will be after spring. Lark will return around Jan. of 2009, I think, and he and Munns will likely be competing vs Covey or a JC QB for the starting position, either of whom will have a year in the program at that point.

Sorry, I meant Lark should return by Jan 2010 and Munns after spring of 2010

It would be hard to see Covey as a D1 QB, The kid s maybe 5'9 and 160 pounds, he's been sick since he got home and has lost a lot of weight. He would have to perform like Detmer to see the field as a starter.

Its nice to hear about football at this time of year.

On Majerus, this is a typical comment of his. Its too bad, because at least half of his championship runner-up team was LDS. What's really too bad, is that had we had a different coach at BYU at the time these kids were recruited, most of them probably would have been playing at BYU (ie the Johnsen brothers, although one was on his mission that year). Majerus isn't the only one that has made similar comments just this past week. Most others were on political "talk" shows.
