BYU Gets Screwed Again! 3 Months ago Karma: 18
If this is a repeat post, I apologize, but I didn't see another one on this topic. Once again the MWC and CSTV have decided to screw the school with the biggest fan base in the MWC...BYU. CSTV made it's 2008 football TV schedule announcement and BYU gets some of the worst coverage. The article is here... http://www.cougarblue.com/content/view/12390/90/

My only question is...well...why? BYU has 3 games televised nationally on either VS., CBS C (college sports network). With 7 games being televised on The Mtn. TCU however, has 6 nationally televised games on VS., or CBS C.

The best part is that the BYU-Utah game will be on The Mtn. only. That same day (Nov. 22), Air Force plays TCU on Versus and UNLV takes on San Diego State on CBS C. Why, you might all be asking? Well, isn't it obvious? I mean wouldn't the Nation much rather see Air Force against TCU and San Diego State play the powerhouse UNLV.

This is a disgusting attempt for the MWC, CSTV, and Direct TV to use their scheduling to force BYU fans (being the most numerous in the MWC) to switch to Direct TV. It makes no other sense. So once again BYU and its fans are being used for the gain of the MWC, CSTV, and Direct TV. How sad. I won't be surprised that once the season starts and everyone has switched to Direct TV, to see CBS and VS. pick up more of BYU's games...especially with all the BCS talk going on. It would be foolish of them not to knowing that BYU and the BYU/Utah rivalry would bring in a lot larger viewership, then the San Diego State/UNLV matchup.

What a joke...I guess in many ways it's a compliment and just goes to show that the MWC and their TV deal would be nothing without BYU on its side.

Looking forward to next season.

Go Cougs!

I'm not sure I buy into the conspiracy theory, but the programming choices are curious to say the least. Keep in mind that these networks give up profit (i.e., advertising dollars) when they decide to televise games that are likely to generate lower fan interest.

The good news is that the games are televised, and for those who have DirectTv, you should be able to see ALL of them. That is exponentially better than last year. In this scenario, the main benefit in having nationally televised games would be to increase BYU's national exposure and prestige, which will, in turn, presumably increase their national ranking. But at least this year the Cougs are actually generating some pre-season buzz and sportswriters, most of whom likely have access to DirectTv, will actually be able to see even non-nationally televised games.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not defending the MWC, Mtn, or the scheduling. The MWC, Mtn, Craig Thompson, and all his cronies still suck. But I think most must admit that it is better than last year. And, by the way, if the MWC still had a contract with ESPN, I'm not sure the result would be a whole lot different. ESPN might televise one more game (probably the rivalry), but we'd still be watching the rest of the games on Church satellite (outside the West).

UCLA trying to screw BYU 3 Months ago Karma: 33
I was debating if i should make this an own thread-but i don't want Bronco to catch me looking ahead...Here's what UCLA is doing to prepare for BYU revenge: scheduled a bye to prepare for us and...

Question: Have you settled on an offense?

Neuheisel: "That doesn't necessarily sound exciting. 'Run the ball and protect the ball' sounds very conservative. But I think if you can do both of those things successfully and commit to both of those things, the excitement then comes because the field now opens because you have to stop the run. You will bleed to death if you don't stop run."

Chow: "We're going to run the ball. To win in this game, in any league, you have to run the ball. I don't think we're going to revolutionize football. We're going to continue to do things that [Neuheisel] and I know best.

"I think now it is a matter of what skills what kids can do. We're not going to ask our kids to do something they are not capable of doing. Right now we put in base stuff that will fit just about anything, then we'll wait and see."....So they aren't capable of passing much...sorry BO,

I think this is just good business on the part of CBS, Comcast and the MTN. They finally broke through and got the MTN distribution on satellite. Simply getting the channel on satellite is not enough though--they need to not only keep it there, but expand distribution to other satellite and cable outlets nationwide. The best way to achieve that is to get eyeballs on the TV set. Which team in the conference draws the most viewers? Which team in the conference has the widest distribution of fans nationwide? I really think this is a good ploy by the big-wigs who organize the TV schedules.

This time, I can be patient. The MTN is available, and every single game is available nationwide. To improve broadcast quality, the MTN needs to start making some hay, and putting BYU games on is the best way to start. I can deal with the lion's share of BYU games on the MTN for the next couple of seasons if that in turn leads to improved production quality and even wider distribution of the channel.

I agree. This actually was a sound move by all involved. Get me and others to switch to prove a demand to Dish and cable and they come on board. I'm just glad that I can finally get ALL the games. I have never had that luxury before. Even with espn gameplan I only got the majority of games. One thing I did like about gameplan were all the "other" games that I got. And one more thing. Is MTN going to have more than one channel. BTN has about five so you can watch all the big10 games if they are played at the same time.

Is CSTV (CBS CS) considered to have better distribution than the mountain? I have the Mountain and Versus, but I don't have CSTV.
