I'm a soon-to-be-graduate of BYU, majoring in Communications (Broadcast Journalism emphasis). I'm looking for a job as a radio news producer, so I'm not sure where we'll end up after graduation.

My BYU connection is pretty strong. My great-uncle was persuaded by missionaries on the Hopi reservation (in Arizona) to go to BYU in the early 50's. My mom graduated from BYU and my dad went, but never finished. Eight out of the ten kids in my family went/are going to BYU (one went to BYU-I and one is still in high school), so we've all been fans since the womb (and as you can see from my avatar, I've started my daughter young!). We grew up listening to Paul James on the radio and catching the occasional Blue & White Sports Network and later, ESPN+ games on TV (my parents have never had cable). I still listen to Greg Wrubell every game, whether I'm there or watching on TV. I feel naked if I'm at a game without my radio.

Since we lived in Arizona, the only two BYU football games I had ever been to before coming to school here were at ASU (I distinctly remember the '97 game when we beat Jake Plummer), but now I go to all the home games in football and basketball.

No direct athletic connection, but it helps that my four older brothers all went into athletic training, so they all worked with the sports teams and us younger kids got to meet players when we'd come up in the summers for basketball camp.

Wow. That wound up being a lot longer than I intended.

However we are moving the end of the month to Waco, Texas so I can attend Baylor Law School. Was going to attend BYU Law School, but BYU dropped their oil and gas offerings, and Baylor offered full-ride + living stipend, and where they are on the quarter system I can attend year-round and take the bar in July '09 as opposed to July '10 at BYU (not that you care, but I feel the need to justify attending anything but BYU)

Waco is part of my home stake.

Sucks for you. (Actually, if you have any questions about how horrible the area is, please feel free to BM me.)

BYU Law isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I'm actually pretty familiar with the area. I lived 9 years in DFW, and in high school my buddies and I would frequent Cameron Park for mountain biking and canoe the Brazos. I hear you about Waco, however....we have opted to buy a house with acreage in Robinson to avoid Waco itself to the maximum extent.

As far as BYU Law, the more I looked into Baylor, the more I realized BYU Law was not at all what I needed. I already have a job lined up when I pass the bar, so when I took placement rates out of the US News rankings, BYU dropped out of the top 75, and Baylor climbed to the top 20. Working for an oil and gas company, I need oil and gas coursework and a decent emphasis on litigation, neither of which are offered by BYU Law. For someone looking for a broad study of the law, I think BYU Law fits the bill, but if you want to focus your studies, it isn't a great fit.

Interesting career choice considering your college degrees.

True. I found that the office gets to me--I need outdoor time--and hobbies don't always make good professions. I grew up in cattle on a horse in the Cascades in Washington St.

I was also single for many years and was able to study and travel. Been all over the middle east wishing I had someone to share it with--now I four little ones to share it with and I can't wait to take them around.

I'm a prosecuting attorney living and working in Boise, Idaho. I graduated from BYU law school in 2001 and have been up here dealing with difficult Boise State fans ever since.

My family is a true BYU family. Both of my parents and my wife's parents graduated from BYU. All but one of my siblings attended BYU (my brother chose to go to the University of Utah) and most of my siblings' husbands/wives went there as well. My kids regularly wear BYU shirts and can often be found chanting BYU BYU BYU. (One semi-related story. I wear a lot of BYU shirts around the house and out doing yard work. During the middle of last summer our neighbor asked my wife if I only have one shirt because all she had seen was BYU shirts.)

I grew up in Utah and my dad always had season tickets to football games and I don't think I missed a single football game as a student, either in undergraduate work or in law school.

I look forward to the day my kids go to BYU.

One question. I get the impression that a lot of people on this board live in the Boise area. Anyone else in addition to me live around here?

I am an insurance agent in Southern Utah and picked the insurance company I represent for the BLUE and WHITE colors. Last year I added 500 square feet to my house dedicated to BYU sports and enjoy having large groups come over to watch the games. I think that stems from my memories of watching games in cultural hall when my dad was a bishop. I always make the trip to any game we play in Vegas and a few trips a year to Provo.

I did not attend BYU and therefore never hold anything against players that decide to go elsewhere. I graduated from SUU with an accounting degree and still help my wife run a small accounting business.

I still have an autograph from my favorite player of all time Luke Staley. I got the autograph in the Cancun airport right after he had surgery concluding his junior year.
