My grandma was the first female "Yell Leader" at BYU. Her parents ran the drama/theater department and have a theater named for them in the HFAC (Pardoe Drama Theater). My parents met at BYU and in my youth told me stories about watching Virgil Carter, Kressimir Kocic, etc. I was hooked way early.
Growing up in Indiana, we watched the football and basketball games on the satellite at our ward building all the time. We'd invite friends over and make food. It was a big party. When I was a Sophomore in HS, I was on the JV Hoops team. My LDS friend (also on the team) and I got flattop haircuts like Mike Smith and Andy Toolson. Our teammates gave us a bit of grief for it, but it was worth it.
My first live game was Detmer leading us to a win over Miami in 1990.
My wife and I graduated in 1996 (she's a distant cousin of LaVell), then I took her and 2 sons back in 2002 for an MBA. Every wife's and kid's dream of how to spend 2 years!
I am a market manager for Union Pacific Railroad and we live in Omaha, NE. We live on--I kid you not--"Y Street". When I was on campus last week, I got a new flag with the throwback Y logo to put in front of my house on game day. Our section of Y Street will be annexed by
CougarTown Saturdays this fall. I have to do something to combat all the Husker drones. I was disheartened when my youngest told me his favorite color was red! Until he told me that his other favorite color is "Blue, like Cougar Blue; 'cause Cougars rule and Utes drool!" He's a smart kid.
Thanks to all for sharing.
