Since many of the posters on this topic are "regulars", I wonder if it would be "objectionable" or "offensive" if this topic were put someplace more accessible...? (A note for the admins?)

The reason I ask is that it is an interesting REFERENCE topic; I'd hate to see this get buried as other topics move to the top...

Just a thought.

Sticky?????

Maybe we just need to have a place on our own page to put our post from this thread. That way if someone wants to know who we are, they can just click on our avatar.

That would be MUCH easier than trying to reference back to this page.

"Now was so-and-so on page 13 or 14? Oh crap it was 9?"

I'm the director of operations for a construction company in Juneau, Alaska. I grew up in Provo, but moved when I was 12. My dad was a masonry contractor, and in the late 80's it was bad in Utah, but booming in Alaska. I grew up with seasons tickets to football and basketball. My dad was and still is one of those who came/comes home hoarse from each game. He trained me well, as I'm sometimes classified as obsessive. Like that could really be possible, honestly!

I grew up a regular post game run to the locker room and get autographs kid. I still have programs from the day with tons of autographs. My favorite experience was trying to get into the locker room the year after Jim McMahon graduated, and not getting any where close to getting in. I was really bummed, and was about to leave when I felt a hand on my shoulder, and heard someone ask "What's wrong buddy?". I turned to stare into Jim McMahon's face, and told him I couldn't get into the locker room to get autographs. He smiled, then personally took me into the locker room, and to all the best players and asked them if they would sign a program for his "little buddy".

I was on cloud 9 when I returned to my dad and told him what had happened. BYU football is definately in my blood. I have had to learn, at the express direction of my patient wife, to controll my post game emotions when the cougs loose. I used to get really bummed, and was accoused of being "grouchy". So I now take it in stride!

I love everything about BYU football, and am so excited at the changes Bronco and his staff have made in the program. The future is truely bright!

GO COUGS!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like ol Jim was a much better person than his reputation gives him credit for. Great story!

Being 10 at the time, and then moving when I was 12, I don't know too much about his rep. But if it was bad, which it sounds like it was at times, they do say that even the sun shines on a dogs backside everyonce in a while! Maybe it was really sunny in Provo that day?!

Jimbo was/is a great guy, he just liked to have a good time and enjoyed a beer on a regualar basis. On the one hand, he is not LDS, on the other hand, he spent most of his time at the Y on the Honor Code office radar. Lavell made a lot of personal phones call on his behalf just to keep him enrolled. That's why Lavell has stated he never wanted another Jim McMahon in Provo. He spent a lot of time and political capital on just one guy.
Oh, and as for me? I'm a self employed Insurance Agent in northern Utah county.

I'm 57 and feeling it--had to flip through the pages just to make sure I didn't already give you my background when this started a few weeks ago. I have a BA in English and MA in Linguistics from BYU (75/76), started loving BYU football with Gary Scheide, really got excited when the company I was working for in Saudi Arabia in 1984 would post top 25 scores they got from telex...

Now I'm married with five kids, youngest is 17, live in American Fork and work in marketing for Novell. I love CougarBlue both for the info and passion.

I wonder how many more of us are on here because of Lavell Edwards?
