I don't think abandoning your (free) college education is great decision. The percentage of NBA draftees that are actually able to make a profitable career is very, very small.

Actually it's very, very high.

Considering 1st round picks get guaranteed money and many 2nd round picks make it into the NBA the money they will receive would be at minimum 6 to 7 times greater than the average college graduate would receive.

Spend 1 or 2 years in the NBA and another couple of years in Europe. It is very likely that the scant 4 year "career" would be more profitable than the lifetime career of many college graduates.

Playing pro ball doesn't mean you can't capitalize on your college education later in life. Not that I think I would compare my pitiful income from my college education to someone making millions a year anyway.

This is a great decision for Trent. He gets to test the waters with no pressure whatsoever. If the feedeback isnt great he comes back to BYU for another year. I actually think this is great for BYU because he will get to work out with guys who are as good if not better then him. Hopefully the competition will help him develop his game some more and receive feed back from NBA guys might motivate him to work on some aspects of his game that he seems to have over looked. It seems like this can really be a win-win situation!

I agree with both points. Good news for Trent and for us. I think it will take some great workouts to go pro this year but I do think he is somewhat hampered by Coach Rose's system so he might be able to pull it out. If not I am very much looking forward to a great year next year with him and Lee tearing it up.

I don't know of many college graduates that make almost $450,000. If he played he few years he might be able to go back to school and finish if he can afford the $3,800 tuition. But I do know that BYU tries hard to provide jobs for the students so they can earn money for college.

Trent is done with his classes. He could graduate if he wanted so no need to get on him for not finishing school, choosing money over education, etc. Unlike the majority of studenst at BYU Trent actually completed his major in 4 years.
