That's why our CB football games were so fun, we had absolutely none of that. Too bad we haven't been able to restart them yet (the flag stuff doesn't count!)

Any time you start a sentence with the phrase "I'm not a ________ (racist, sexist, etc.), but...", the next thing out of your mouth proves that you are. I don't know why people think that if they use a qualifying statement, such as "I don't want to paint all Mormon's with a broad brush", that it completely eleviates any culpability on their part.

Now, I don't want want to lump all reporters together, but they tend to be arrogant punks who think they know everything and must educate us stupid people. They also tend to think they are above the law, and should be able to write what they want, without having to disclose sources, and write things in such a negative manner because they want to appear "unbiased". They need to come down from their ivory tower, and actually report the facts and not their version of the facts.

It's funny too because I open the gym up on Thursday for ball. The only ones that show up to play aren't members of the church. I'm the only white dude. Anytime someone has a question as to why there are "suspicious" looking people in the church they seek out the only white dude and ask, "Are you the priesthood authority here?" Why can't the guy with the pony tail be the priesthood authority? Or what about the black guy with a nice clean hair cut? We're all in shorts and t-shirts.

Not only that, but no one in the ward wants to come play because all the "scary" people are there. I never had a problem with any of the "scary" people until one day a ward memeber shows up and what does he do? He starts a fight! I had to kick my own ward memeber out of the church!

I don't know what it is but too many Mormons struggle with just playing a friendly game of basketball. I'm all for competitive sport, but it's just for fun. There are no salaries, no awards, and our wives don't even show up to watch us because they get too embarrassed by our behavior.

That is why I gave up the game about 9 years ago when we moved into our current house.

This past season our YM were playing and one of the priests said something to a group watching the game. I don't remember what was said but they thought it was profane and went ballistic. The husband of the wife who heard the comment verbally attacked the kid and made a complete fool of himself and his wife. They ended up leaving on their own, but I think they were close to being thrown out. The problem is very rarely the youth, it is almost always the parents or those "adults" participating or watching. I am not sure what the answer is but it is because of these morons that I don't like church basketball anymore.

Totally agree on the parents/adult thing. I never had or saw a problem playing youth basketball, but in the same stake on the adult team...plenty of problems. And now that I think about it, there were some rather angry parents watching our youth games.

My personal opinion is as adults we don't get to compete in sports as much as we used to or want to. Many of us played competitively in high school or college so when given the chance we take it way too seriously. Those players that I play with on weekly pickup game basis never have outbursts compared to those who only play sports when the stake league starts up.
