Regarding the bashing that went on... meh, most of us have heard much worse, and put much more eloquently (and rationally).
I'm much less worried about people's opinions being influenced by those two or three idiots than, say, the idiot "Pastors for Huckabee" bloggers' twisted lies about the LDS Church, simply because people tend to accept such sources as "factual." (Humorous, when you think about it, because to be honest, I'd almost trust the opinions/"facts" of drunken sportsfans over politicians' stooges. At least you know sports fans actually believe what they're saying!

)
Regarding the football, there was only one real mention (and by a Cougar fan), in the whole diatribe about the
real storyline of the game. Everybody was talking about their infallible Jake Locker and our under-talented, under-athletic, under-experienced defense. In fact, NOT the storyline.
The storyline is what an ENTIRE RETURNING OFFENSIVE JUGGERNAUT will be able to do against a similarly question-marked defense. I have little doubt that in a home-opener, the Locker kid will be well motivated to play good ball, and it would be unrealistic to expect our defense to absolutely shut him down. He'll score points. But he's one guy, and I've not heard much about anything for him to pass to, or for him to get blocks from, or for him to hand the ball off to.
Bottom line: If the defenses are a push (as I feel they probably are), then I, for one, am going to take a top 15 offense who won 11 games last year, and have had an entire off-season to mature and develop, rather than one kid with little if anything around him, just because he can run fast.
