I have found that the people who have more karma than most have earned it. Even though I don't have much myself, I know why--while I read the board everyday, I rarely post. Therefore I don't expect much. I figure, from experience, anyone with +25 karma or higher has earned it. Cruiser has it for his insider perspective. McGregor has it for his info and his well thought out posts. Snoscythe has the scout's eye and a great sense of humor. Etyotx (I guess BYUtx now) is very knowledgeable, and he would have more if his passion didn't sometimes take him too far. That's why his brother doesn't have much. The people who have it are knowledgeable, post regularly, and respect the viewpoints and insight of other posters.
Those with lower karma, but not abysmal levels are generally those who post less frequently, offer less substance, and who occasionally insult or offend.
Those with abysmal karma are the trolls and the jerks, and yes, the karma beggars.
Now, I understand that Cougfan84 made a mistake in begging for karma. I think he has learned his lesson and deserves a second chance. However, I do not agree with his being elevated to +29 for threatening to leave the site. Put the guy back to zero, and make him
EARN his karma like everyone else. While he should not have to bear his -30 for a juvenile error, neither should he be awarded +29 for his antics.
If you want karma, don't beg for it. Earn it. Contribute regularly, and post respectful, well thought out posts and you will have not only karma, but respect and the whole of Cougarblue will be better for your involvement.
