I disagree. I see this as a bad sign for Beck. Henne will be a good pro QB. No matter how much potential he has, that a team with so many holes decided to take a QB with their 4th pick is a vote of no-confidence for Beck. Rebuilding with a young QB you figure that a couple of FA veteran QB's can come it to mentor your future QB. You make the position a battle and the team grows together as all the positions come together. However, the other positions are the most important. You focus on shoring up both lines before drafting more QB's.

I think that John's 7 fumbles last year left everybody thinking he's not NFL material.

This guy thinks Parcells has confidence in JB and is just getting another backup... I tend to agree.

I agree that Henne was a value pick at that spot (but that's only because I like him as a QB). But I find it hard to interpret as a vote of confidence for John Beck. I think the team could be improved more by filling line holes or a WR, or a DB, or well, anything. Either that or Parcells believes the QB is just as much of a weakness. Which it probably is.

I agree that is certainly wasn't a vote of confidence for Beck, but I don't see it as a vote of no confidence either. To me, it is a vote of "we don't know what we have and here is a QB we like at a value pick so we had better take him." I think all that any of us really wanted and expected was for Beck to get a fair shot and not be judged and dismissed based on last year. I don't see drafting Henne as changing that stance, just adding more horses to the stable. Like others have said, if Beck doesn't win the job, oh well. We just want him to have a fair shot, which I think he will get.

How could anyone expect the Dolphins to give a vote of confidence for Beck based on his play last year? He didn't do anything that would indicate that he was the QB of the future. Of course, because he was thrown to the wolves with a severe lack of coaching and severe lack of surrounding talent, the phins are not going to write him off either. It appears that the Dolphins are acting prudently in this manner. They now have three QBs that fit the mold they are looking for, and may the best QB win. If Beck cannot beat out McCown or Henne then he doesn't deserve to start. If anyone is implying that he is not going to get a fair shot, then I think they are mistaken. Beck was highly regarded by Parcells in last years draft. They are going to give him a fair chance at winning the QB job.

Another way of looking at drafting Henne with the third pick is to prove to Beck that he would get a fair shot. They could have gone QB with their first pick of the draft (though that would have been insane), but certainly with their second pick of the draft. Instead, they held off until the third pick--low enough not to be considered a vote of no confidence, but high enough to get a potential starter if necessary.

Also, since Henne was good value at that pick, if he doesn't pan out, they can trade him as a serviceable back-up QB to another team in the future. So, it made sense to take him where they did.

The good thing is that the phins spent a lot of picks bolstering the offensive and defensive lines, picking up another big bruising RB and a big bruising FB. It appears the phins will focus on the run this year, which will take a lot of pressure off of Beck or whoever wins the QB position (My guess would be Beck, and if not Beck, then McCown--I doubt Henne gets the nod in his first year). If both lines are bolstered sufficiently this year, then next year you can expect the Dolphins to pick up some skill position players to round out the offense (they badly need a #1 receiver) and draft some CBs and Safeties to help out the secondary.

I think Beck's future is still wide open. It will be whatever he makes of it.

Kinda like having an ace in the pocket...it does not hurt to have a good player that can be of "worth" to someone else for a future trade.
