Then there's this: Cougar-killer Josh Carter of Texas A&M became the 7,238th college player to declare for the 2008 NBA Draft this afternoon. He will not hire an agent.

What an incredible number. I had no idea that many players declared for the draft each year. Does anyone know if the number is that high every year?

From Greg's Blog.
the whole thing is interesting, but the quote is from the end.

Wow! Maybe I should put my name in. I dunno... maybe I would have a better shot if I stick around and get my post count up to Senior status.

There was a similar comment on espn.com's Week In Review Quiz:

8. Who of the following has not declared eligibility for the NBA draft?
(a) Derrick Caracter
(b) JaVale McGee
(c) C.J. Giles
(d) You
(e) None of the above

Answer: At this point d, but sources say you're talking to an agent

Go ahead and do it. Just don't sign an agent. That way you can come back and post if you want to.

There certainly are a lot of underclassmen this year, almost 50 I believe.
I wonder what the total number of prospects that actually get scouted is. How many players are actually being considered in the draft? 100? 200? 500?

I remember several years ago there was some kid from my area that entered the draft and hired an agent without ever playing college hoops. Not a big deal, but consider the guy was in his early 20s and hardly played in high school.

My dog could enter the draft...if I had a dog.

There has to be some database that these scouts use to grab the top 100 based on stats at each position. No way they look at every kid.
