I can't believe I'm weighing in on this. . .

In principle I hate this show, but my wife loves it so I've actually seen quite a bit of it this season.

First off, I have to admit that archelleta kid is pretty freakin amazing for a 15 year old. Unbelievable. The guy has some pipes, he reminds me of christopher cross but without the weight problems.

The Cook kid sounds kind of cool, but he mostly just annoys me. True rockers belong in a band, not on american idol. He'll end up as the frontman for some annoying band that sounds just like nickelback just like that other idol guy.

Brook probably has the most annoying personality of anyone on the show, but she is a pretty good singer.

What's really sad about that show is that it took until last week for that awful country singer to go out.

The group this year has actually been surprisingly talented for the most part, but whoever is choosing the nightly themes is starting to annoy me. They're doing neal diamond next week, yuck (Hans Olsen will be happy, but I'll just be annoyed).

I will dock my own karma for being the idol police, but the Archelleta kid is 17 and will be 18 in like 6 months. He sings the same lame songs over and over again and doesn't have any variety. David Cook should win. He is the most talented and most versitle in terms of style.

Castro will be a big hit though with the sit in my dorm room and lite up all day college kids

Yeah, most original at ripping off chris cornell, I'm sorry, I just don't like that kid, I think he's a poser.

I'll back up Cook on this, whats he supposed to do? None of the themes have fit him very well, besides the beatles weeks. So he did what any smart contestants have done, done a cover of a song that fit that theme. He has an amazing voice. I do think he is a lot like Chris Cornell, but whats wrong with that? Honestly, the music industry could use more of guys like him. Cornell is my favorite male voice of any band.

Cook is going to do SO much better than Daughtry. I liked him, but Cook is just plain better

I guess I'm just a rock purist and I don't like American Idol infiltrating rock. I definitely think Cook's voice is better than daughtry (or whatever his name is), but there is a huge difference between Chris Cornell and David Cook.

One came out of the Seattle underground in the 90's and has a true music persona built on creativity and work, while the other guy is just a pretender (that's partially why I hate that show, they're basically all pretenders). American Idol just doesn't fit with the counter culture of rock, sorry, it just doesn't. Rock is about things being noisy and out of control. It's about believing in something and make a statement. It's about going against the grain. Do you think you'd ever see David Grohl, Trent Resnor, Kurt Cobain, Maynord James Keenen or johnny rotten on American Idol!?!

Just a couple thoughts:
1) Simon is the only honest judge. He just lacks tact. Paula is a bunch of fluff that doesn't want to offend. And Randy just likes to "check it out" and comment on "pitchiness"

2) If the american voting is based on the entire season and not on a week to week basis, then they got it right last night. If they are based solely on Tuesday's performances then they messed up badly! Jason should have been OUT and Brooke should have been right behind, although she recovered well and finished strong.

So what do you all think?

I agree with you 100%. I enjoy the show for the train wrecks to start the season and to see how the talent rises to the top. I think America gets it wrong at times, like this week. Jason was horrible and should be gone. Carly had the best performance of the night.

You called it right about Simon and Paula. What's up with her chest pressing bodice last night? Not a good look for her. Simon doesn't understand American tastes either, so there are times he's wrong because of that. But overall, he's the best judge.

Archuleta has this won already, though Castro will give him a run for his money. Brooke is wholesome and sweet. Jason is wierd and Aishia (sp?) has some great singing talent, but was too late in the game. The guys win this season.
