Wanted to throw out my support for the Jazz. I'm not a huge basketball fan, but as much of a fan as I am, it's for the Jazz. Anyone who doesn't see the positive in what the Jazz have done last year and this is being willfully blind, which of course anti-fans will always do.

To lose to the Lakers is not a choke... unless they are swept, I would not see a series loss as a choke. Choke wasn't my word, "Collapse" was. And not "collapse" as in lose when favored, but "collapse" as in crumble into a motionless heap. As is "lose".

The one thing that I disagree with Mars on is that the Jazz are on a downward swing from last year. Last year, the Jazz shouldn't have been in the Western Conference Finals. Had Dallas just done what everyone thought they could have done last year, the Jazz would have been out in the 2nd round. The same goes for this year. The Jazz are the 4th or 5th youngest team in the league, and haven't figured out how to win on the road yet. To be thought of as one of the elite teams at this point of their development is astounding... Sadly, the teams that the Jazz would have to beat to get to the finals (I'm assuming that the Spurs end up winning that series) are the two teams that they can't match up with because they really show how poor the Jazz play defense. The Jazz have been a poor defensive team for years (probably since Mark Eaton retired), and have gotten away with it against mediocre teams that don't run good offensive sets and slowing the ball down to keep scores low. The Lakers and the Spurs run very sound offenses and can hit outside shots. That equals doom for the Jazz. I didn't say that the Jazz are worse than last year, I said that their play against Houston got worse as that series went on. Would you disagree with that? And I certainly wouldn't refer to the Jazz as an "elite" team, nor have I heard anyone else refer to them as such.
And it doesn't look like the Spurs will make it past New Orleans.

Hm... the same "Yao-less" Houston team that won 22 games in a row? Are you trying to say that Houston didn't have Yao for any of those games? Because you might want to double-check that statement.

The Jazz will be fine... I think the series will go 7 games with LA winning and making the NBA millions of extra cash with a BeanTown and Hollywood Finals. You think losing in 7 is "fine"? Besides, I think the Salt Lake Jazz will lose in 5-6.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time kicking a dog when it's down, but...
* The Lakers take a 2-0 lead, beating the Jazz 120-110.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2008050713
* Only 6% of teams come back from losing the first two games.
* Jackson is 39-0 after winning game 1 of a playoff series.
* The Lakers are on a 6-0 streak; The Jazz are on a 2-4 streak.
* Utah has the WORST post-season home record of the remaining playoff teams (2-1) AND L.A. has already won in Salt Lake City this year.
Again, I'm not a Lakers fan by any means, but I do see them as a tool in the hands of the NBA to destroy the Jazz. And my in-laws are from there and remain big fans, so good for them at least.
A parting note from L.A. (gotta keep a sense of humor about things):

For claiming not to be a Laker fan, you sure sound like one...
It's kind of hard to win a game, when the FTA disparity is 89-35 through 2 games. Hopefully, the officiating can be a little more "consistent" when the series shifts to Salt Lake.
