"14. BYU: The Cougars start the season with the nation's longest winning streak (10). That, and the best BYU team since the LaVell Edwards' days.

Pre-spring: 16"

Not bad! Even though it is only preseason. He also has Ohio State as #1 and I don't think that is how the they will end the season. But at least many different sources are giving respect to BYU even before the season starts. Others have mentioned this before, but it makes me a little nervous when we get tons of hype. The pressure is growing everyday on our boys to have a nearly perfect season. I would almost rather play with a chip on our shoulder for not getting the respect we deserve! It will be fun to watch this whole thing play out.

Do people really think Ohio State will win at USC (Sat. September 13, 2008)?

Is schedule a part of preseason rankings? I know the Buckeyes have a recent history of being overrated and showing it in the championship games but I have no problem with them starting on top this year. They were a very young team last year and didn't lose much. They also have one of the best running backs in the country as well as the most talented recruit I've ever seen play.
Good for them for scheduling that type of game. If they win, it will shut up the overrated cries (however if they lose, it won't drop them too far down the polls and give them time to climb up again by the end of the season when they win all of their Big 10 games).

Not a chance (unless USC is as beat up as when they lost to stanford last year). They'll come out of the coliseum licking their wounds after getting pounded.

I really doubt BYU's AP ranking will be that high until about half way through the season assuming that they don't lose. But it would be great for them to start there.

I thought it was a good sign that he had us 2 spots higher than pre-spring. He had us sliding past Wisconsin, LSU and Virginia Tech, although Clemson jumped us. Looks like spring showed him that we could plug people in on defense. Now I know that this assumes that he actually saw some of BYU's spring, which may be a reach, but normally they would just not watch us and leave us where we were or drop us behind schools he did watch. Good sign, even if we don't start with that sort of ranking.

I also had a laugh at what he said about Fresno State. Bulldog fans have been talking up this year, but they tend to focus more on the first sentence than the second sentence

If the Bulldogs get past Rutgers, Wisconsin, UCLA and Boise State, they could be playing in the Orange Bowl. What's more likely is that Pat Hill will upset at least one of those teams and win nine games.

Fresno State should be good this year, but they haven't had fewer than 3 losses since 1991, and haven't even won the WAC since 1999. But I will give them props for scheduling, even if it is a bit masochistic.
