I certainly admire Miller's dedication in not attending Jazz games on Sunday, I know that I am certainly not as involved in the Jazz as he is and I have attended at least 2 Jazz playoff games played on Sunday. However, does anyone else see a little bit of hypocrisy that he won't go to Jazz games on sundays, but he has no problem going on Sports Beat Sunday with Tom Kirkland and discuss the Jazz as well as promote his Miller Speedway? Just seems a little off to me.

I agree with the part in the article where he explains that it didn't feel right to him. As a huge Jazz fan I can attest to doing and saying things I am not proud of in the middle of a heated game. Maybe he feels he can keep his focus and emotions of the sabbath in check on Sports Beat and not court side.

It was on this board that I heard a great story of a guy and his wife walking home from church. The wife noticed someone doing yard work or something and made a comment about it being the sabbath. The man responded by saying the sabbath was reserved for passing judgement on others. Hilarious.

I try not to look at other peoples hypocrisy because I am not the exemplar on the topic...I don't think most of us have exemplar lifestyles that make us free from hypocrisy or percieved hypocrisy from others.

Well said Kiwi. I see that is not a beam in your eye.

I think the story about Miller is well-written. It doesn't make him sound like a prude, just a good guy who is trying to do what he thinks is right, which is pretty remarkable given the investment he has in the Jazz.

I am not an expert in hypocrisy (at least I hope not), but for me I think you can't call someone a hypocrite unless they are professing to, preaching to or criticizing others and then not living the tenets they profess, preach, etc. In Miller's case, he hasn't taken the mike and told everyone not to attend on Sunday or condemned anyone for some Sabbath activity, so I'd say that hypocrite word is pretty strong. Let the man live the way he feels is right and if others see it as not right and criticize- I think they are more likely the hypocrites.

Well said gladejo. I agree completely. I hear alot of people criticize Miller, either because the car they bought was a lemon (which he has little directly to do with that) or because they are just jealous of his successes. But I have listened to dozens of his interviews of the years and I appreciate his candor, honesty, openness and commitment. He runs the Jazz as cleanly as he can given the state of sports these days, and never veers from those commitments. He is loyal to coaches, players and acquaintances and acts like a real person. I am greatful for what he has done to give us, a small market, a competitive professional basketball team. Oh, and I absolutely love that he built a world-class racetrack! Road racing is a secondary interest of mine and being able to see the action live and in person is awesome! Thank you Larry!

Gene Wojciechowski wrote an article on ESPN.com about Larry H. Miller, who doesn't go to (or even watch or listen to) Jazz games on Sundays. Whether you agree with Miller or not, it's an interesting read.

Lakers-Jazz Game #4 was the first Utah home game in 4 years. That stat alone is amazing! Good for Larry H.
