Again, fine - paternity test filed. But what was a 13-year-old doing hanging out with college students? Did Karl really know her true age? Why now (25 years after the fact), as opposed to any time earlier... This may be some reasons why this is paying a paternity suit, rather than a court-decided matter. He made a mistake (apparently); what he is done in the community of Salt Lake and for the NBA are still great accomplishments. If the issue has been resolved with paying the suit, (and no legal COA is to follow), then why are we still "ooing" and "awing" all over it. It's past history.

Seriously- What's wrong with you? A 20-year old taking advantage of a 13-year old girl is a TERRIBLE thing (that's why they have laws against it, and why 400-or-so children were abducted by the government in Texas this month)! It's despicable of you to try to pin the fault on the little girl. And decent people who read this article will have to take a second look about seeing Karl Malone as any sort of hero or role model, which from a moral/ethical standpoint he clearly isn't. The article came out because Karl's son who he refuses to have contact with just got taken in the NFL draft last month. Again, which you would know if you had read it.

Again, I'm NOT trying to make excuses, but there are more things from the story than what we are being told. Yes, it's a terrible thing - I'm not discounting that. And do you think that ALL 400 children in the polygamous compound were victims of abuse? (doubtful). As I said, let the issue be resolved in a court of law before passing judgement.

And as terrible as this is, a person makes mistakes. Does that mean that he can't repent/change and be a good role model after that? Everybody should have the benefit of the doubt; everybody makes mistakes.

Again, I don't know all the details of the story (and, not being a lawyer), I will not pass judgement until done so in a Court of Law. However, has a paternity test been done? Just because someone says/confesses they are the father/son, does not necessarily make it so. Does DNA confirm this? Again, if it has been established, I haven't heard that yet).

Some of you obviously didn't read the article. Shame on you (MajorCougar, NorthernCougar) being being lazy and asking questions that I already linked the answer to.

A COURT OF LAW has required Malone to pay $125 Paternity a week since the DNA TEST proved he was the father of the 13-year of girl's child. As you would have known if you hadn't just clicked "reply" before reading.

Ah, yes. Pulling the "shame on you" card because you don't know how to respond to what I said. I never once said that Malone wasn't the father. That never was in dispute. Nor did I defend him. It is pretty sad and definitely is a crime for a 20 year old man to have sex with a 13 year old girl.

But it still is libel to call him a rapist until a COURT OF LAW (not sure why we have to shout that) says he is. And I did know that before I clicked reply. Just stating the facts which seem to bother you.

Actually, since Karl IS a public figure he would have to prove malice. But he would also have to prove the statement to be false and that it harmed the his reputation. I think Karl would have a hard time with this one.

Come on MajorCougar, pull down your Mailman poster. I can pass judgement on this one without a court of law. I don't see why you're so adamant that Malone should not be judged on this one. Also, haven't his seed-sowing ways been documented many times before?

This is old news, brought up again because his offspring has just been drafted in the NFL. It was brought up in 1998 (I knew it was one of the finals years), when his daughter, Cheryl Ford of the WNBA, was in college.

I am not going to defend Karl for what he did, but he was a different person 15 years after this took place. To call him a rapist is just Mars trying to get the fan base riled up.

Oh, and BoiseBYU, had Malone been healthy the year he was with the Lakers, Kobe would be looking for his 5th ring instead of his 4th ring. Early on that year when they had everybody healthy they were amazing.

And 100% accurate, as multiple other posters in this thread have pointed out.
