By pure coincidence, the team is 9-21 the year before he starts to lead the team and 20-9, 25-9, and 27-8 in the three years mentioned above. Those three seasons only had two things in common: Dave Rose as head coach and Trent Plaisted as one of the team leaders. A head coach can't do it on his own. To call Trent Plaisted anything short of one of the key elements to BYU's success these last three years is sheer folly. Don't get me wrong, the guy has his flaws. But that doesn't warrant stupid statements like yours.
... And in this corner - wearing the blue shorts ...
Ok guys no head butting or hitting below the belt. Come out swinging.
You guys who think Plaisted needs more improvement in order to be a success are fooling yourselves if you think he'll get more improvement at BYU then with an NBA program to be successful as a pro. The only guys who are better off spending the extra year in college are the ones who won't make it in the NBA and need to stretch out their good careers as long as possible. If he is going to be a success in the NBA, the NBA will make him a success faster than BYU will. If he is destined to fail, then he will fail whether or not he gets another year with us.
I disagree with you, the NBA is a meat market and if you don't succeed early they spit you out and move on to the next guy. Trent has a lot of athletic ability but is a 1 dimentional player that will be easily neutralized by quicker more athletic guys that have his same height. He needs to develop a jump shot to succeed in the NBA. NBA teams will have little patience for a guy who can't shoot, can't shoot free throws and can't play defense.
The sad thing is, if Trent had developed a jump shot and raised his free throw percentage, he would be a lottery pick hands down. I hope for the best with him, but frankly I don't see him being a success in the NBA. he has an average post up game and has a hard time scoring in a half court offense. I just don't see that translating into anything successful in the NBA.
This rumor is now almost 3 days old with no confirmation by normal media outlets. I think it is safe to say that the individual who started it is not an insider as he claims. The safe bet is still that Trent will return next year.
I retract my previous statement as it is becoming clear that he has in fact signed with an agent. I apologize for doubting the veracity of the statements by the poster lovelldog.
