You guys who think Plaisted needs more improvement in order to be a success are fooling yourselves if you think he'll get more improvement at BYU then with an NBA program to be successful as a pro. The only guys who are better off spending the extra year in college are the ones who won't make it in the NBA and need to stretch out their good careers as long as possible. If he is going to be a success in the NBA, the NBA will make him a success faster than BYU will. If he is destined to fail, then he will fail whether or not he gets another year with us.

I'm not making a judgment call as far as Plaisted is concerned- I just think that if he is going pro, then he probably weighed his options and realized that he's got about as much exposure as he's gonna get and this is his in and I think its a good decision. Its make or break and I wish him the best.

You're completely discounting the value of a resume' season in college hoops. You don't sell when your stock is low and that's what TRent is doing.
If he came back and his team got into the sweet sixteen, he might end up a lottery pick; instead he's going to get a 2nd round minimal salary for a year before the league realizes he has no NBA value.

Arajou made more money because of his senior year (aka lottery pick) than Trent will make in his entire career; if it is true that he hired an agent. I'm in the same boat as a few others, if he's dumb enough to listen to the wrong people, then I don't want him at BYU. We'll be just fine with Chris Miles; at least Miles can rebound and box out.

I have no desire to root for Trent in the league; but his stay will be so short, I won't have to worry about it.

This does however make me a huge fan of Tyler Hansbrough, and I can't even begin to say how much I appreciate his love for basketball. I'm not sure Trent even likes hoops, and I certainly don't know if he cares about BYU.

I don't disagree with you in the least. What I said focused solely on his development as a player. I get sick of people saying a person isn't NBA ready and needs another year to improve for the NBA- well guess what- there are plenty of guys developing in the NBA or developmental leagues and another year at BYU won't help his development more to be a better NBA player- though, you are right- if BYU does really well it could help his draft stock- what I said was I figured he did that analysis and determined his stock would not go up next year. I don't know if I would disagree with that conclusion either.

Not sure if I understand the Hansbrough reference. Is it because he is staying - you think he loves basketball and UNC? If that is what you are saying, you are mistaken. It has been well documented that he is staying because his draft stock has plummeted and he is, by the most optimistic estimates, a late first rounder at best. Some have him not going in the second round even. Doesn't have the right skills for the next level by most accounts - too small to play power forward and no outside shot that could keep him in the league at a small forward.

Plummeted stock as NCAA POY? It is hardly "well documented" that he is staying due to career motives.....The guy wants a championship first and foremost (which actually is well documented); and aside from his obvious enthusiasm when he plays (and Trents complete lack of enthusiasm) Tylers stock won't improve by returning next season....... not much more you can do to top beating out Michael Beasley for POY.

His biggest problem is that he plays like a big man but most NBA scouts think he is only 6' 6" or 6' 7" at best http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/06/sports/ncaabasketball/06sidebar2.html

If he's that small, he needs to be athletic to survive in the NBA. There are lots of questions about that as well.

NBADraft.net had him in the late second round before he declared that he was returning.

DraftExpress had him at 29th.

Here is one of the most optimistic: #19 http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/chi-17-smith-britemar17,0,6005516.column

POY of the year means nothing to the NBA. Nothing. It's like winning the Heisman. Ask Troy Smith how much that helped him get a good draft spot.

On another note, I have seen several articles questioning the championship angle because few people are giving UNC a chance after so many of their key players are jumping in the draft. I'll have to see if I can find those.
