Source? Link?

I am married to his sister.

I always knew you were a homer!

Nobody has defended Trent on this board like you have. Good for you for being loyal but I'm not holding my breath on his pro career. I guess I'll have to find a new scapegoat for next season...JT maybe?

Good Luck to Trent.

Selfishly I would rather he stay at BYU because I think BYU is better with him than without him. If he can get paid for doing what he loves more power to him. Nothing is more overrated than staying in college to improve your draft stock. Chances are he would be in the same or worse position next year. I hope he continues to represent BYU well.

Unfortunately, I don't think Trent will get drafted very high. As I watched mock draft lists through the year, he started high and has gradually fallen off the list. There are three things he needs to improve on in order to play in the NBA:

1. Learn to hit a 10-15 ft. jump shot. We already know he can get around just about anyone to the hoop. If he can force the defender to play honest outside 10 ft. it will open up more for him going to the basket.

2. Post moves. We all know he is left handed, and while he did improve with his right hand, he is still nowhere close to where he needs to be. He won't get away with his flailing prayers at the basket that he puts up sometimes. Granted, he does have a very effective drop step move as long as he is on the right block

3. Free-throws. He gets to the line so much because he is more athletic than everyone else. Teams learned that if you can stop him, just foul him because he can't hit from there.

Part of the reason this happened is that NCAA rules not only exclude you from hiring an agent but from having one do anything for you as well. Its hard to get invites if you don't have the agent so most schools turn a blind eye to this but BYU does not so it was either get little attention or sign an agent.

I think this is probably a good move on his part as I don't really think he will gain much by coming back another year. How many seniors do you see in the mock drafts so in the first round? In reality his best year to go would have been his freshman year. Rose won't use him any differently next year which will keep him from becoming the best player he can be. I don't think Trent has any illusions of being a lottery pick or even possibly a first rounder but the second round I think is very likely. Worst case he ends up in Europe making $150K tax free with no living expenses.

Good Luck Trent!!

I'm going to have to go with the popular sentiment here, I think both Trent and BYU would have been better off with him staying another year. That said, I can't say I blame him for going for the money now, and wish him the best.

I disagree with this. I think he still needs to improve in a lot of areas before making it big in the NBA. Another summer of work on his shooting, free-throws, low-post moves and another year at BYU would do him some good.

His draft stock isn't that high currently and unless he does something amazing, I don't see it changing much. Staying another year would give him a chance to improve his stock. If not, he could always play in Europe, which is where he might end up anyway.
