BYU's softball team began its regional play with a 3-0 shutout over No. 13 North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Thursday. A three-run homer by sophomore Angeline Quiocho gave BYU the runs it needed to pull off the upset. Christina Gwyn-Trice got the win giving up five hits and striking out three.
North Carolina's Danielle Spaulding allowed only four hits and struck out 14 BYU batters. The Cougars face No. 23 Georgia today. The winner of the double-elimination regional advances to the NCAA Super Regional.
