I signed up yesterday with DirecTV. The installation will take place on July 3rd. I won't disconnect Dish Network until then. Each have its + and its -. Dish Network has a dual receiver which allows you to operate 2 TV's for the price of a single receiver. I have 4 TV's, so I only had to pay for one extra dual receiver (one came with package). However, I had to pay $5 monthly for local channels. DirecTV includes locals in its package pricing; however, I have to lease 3 receivers. In regards to the $23 off - I had two sales people offer me an extra $5 off monthly for the first year; however, when I called back to sign up, I called 4 different sales reps and none of them could offer it. Two told me that it used to be $18 off monthly for one year and they could offer an additional $5 off at that time, but not with the $23 off promotion. I signed up for the DVR Plus package and received the $23 off monthly for one year, a free DVR hookup, free shipping, $20 off autopay (credit card), $50 off ($10 per month for 5 months for having a friend refer me). Additionally, I signed up for AAA $69 and will receive a second DVR at no cost for the hookup, and $10 off for 24 months. To do the AAA promo, you need to contract for 24 months; however, you can downgrade and upgrade without charge. The two DVR's can be used in place of the receivers for those 2 TV's. One receiver is provided in the package, so I will have to pay $14.97 for the three receivers (actually 1 extra receiver and 2 DVR's). I have to pay $5 monthly for DVR service and I can operate the two DVR's for the $5 monthly fee. The difference between the Choice Xtra and DVR Plus plan is the $5 charge for the DVR. If you had 4 DVR's and no simple receivers, your charge for the four, three, two or one DVR's is $5 monthly. You could take the simplest plan and pay $5 monthly for the DVR(s). I tried to exchange one of the free movie channels (HBO $14) for the sports package ($12 monthly) but the sales rep would not let it happen. He said they were "packaged" and could not be altered. Instead of FREE DVR setup, I think that you can choose FREE HD Receiver setup instead, but then I think that you'd have to pay extra for HD programming. If you have an HD TV and you sign up for AAA, I think you can use one free for DVR setup and the second free for HD setup. Really, the only reason I switched was to watch Mtn West sports (MTN). All the programming packages also included Rocky Mountain Fox Sports (Jazz Basketball) and KJZZ on the local channels. Versus required the Choice Extra or DVR Plus. Let me know what everyone else is doing.....
