I'm not sure your asking the right question. All BYU can do is go undefeated, blowing out most every team. Other than that, there is NOTHING they can do. There would have to be a year like last year with upset after upset, where the top 5 is changing every week.

BYU on for their part would have to go undefeated and probably blow everyone out. On the part of football, BYU would need every other BCS team except one, to lose a minimum of three games. All the teams ahead of BYU now in the polls would have to lose three games so they dropped below them. It would also help if UCLA or WA won the PAC-10, if MICH won the BIG Televen (and got beat badly by Utah), if TCU beating OK, etc. An aweful lot of if's.

Exactly, and although one of those if's might occur the others are unlikely, epecially all in the same season. It is fun to dream though, because if BYU were to win the N.C. BCS game it would be hard to keep us out of the top spots next season because we don't loose anybody really after this season.

The thing is that if BYU were to go undefeated this year (including a BCS win), it would set them up for a run next year requiring many less "ifs" to come to pass.

They will have to run the table 2 years in a row. That is the biggest what if of all.

He is asking about it happening this year. The "ifs" will go down for every consecutive undfeated season. Going undefeated 10 years in a row would probably ensure that another undefeated season would lead to an NC regardless (irregardless for those who like that "word" )of how all other BCS and non-BCS teams do.

When the Ute's made their run at the title in 04 they scored 509 points to their opponents 227. They averaged a 25 pt margin of victory and still came in 4th to USC, Auburn and OU who had 1 loss.
BYU would have to have a similar season and pray all other contenders have 1 to 2 losses. The powers that be would have to put BYU in the #1 position after all other team blew up. They couldn't go in on their own merits. The BCS is too corrupt/bias to allow that.

though the bowl alliances of the past, and bcs hate outsiders...and designed these to keep teams like BYU out. They have to love the attention fans give BYU as well as the excellent tv ratings and sales BYU fans are responsible for. if there is any team outside of the bcs (nd doesn't count) it'd have to be BYU. NOBODY else could be as lucrative.
