guys can be so self-congratulatory sometimes, like you need little things like this for self validation. You don't hear Southern Baptists, Methodists or other religions going around saying things like "Hey look! 10 out of twelve head coaches in the NFL are Baptist!!! WhooooHoooo!!!!"
Of course his post had nothing to do with region. My response was just to show how madeningly random his post was.
And by the way, I agree that he can say what he wants, as can you AND ME.
I just thought it was a strange to be bragging about religious representation among coaches on a SPORTS board.
Finally, aren't Snoop Dog, Ozzy Osborne, Maroon 5, Jewel, and Steve Martin all Mormon too? Why don't you go start a website that lists all the famous mormons (even those who are not and never have been mormon)... oh wait, someone's already done that.
Cheers and bring on the Karma!
Don't be so condescending and lighten up...1st this board is meant for interesting meaningless conversation (this qualifies) 2nd this is a subject that repeatedly comes up with a lot of religious and minority groups.
It's common practice worldwide (it would seem to be human nature) for minority groups to identfy with those like them.
Jim Thorpe is considered by many as the greatest american athlete to ever live, something that native americans will remind you of.
Ben Carson is a famous pediatric neurosurgeon... and he happens to be African American... something the black community celebrates.
Eduardo Najera is celebrated by Mexico... come to think of it... white NBAers are also celebrated, as few as there are.
Fat guys take lot of pride in Babe Ruth (tic)
My ex-wife and Kyle Whittingham have a lot in common.....Don't make me spell it out.
Adam Sandler even sang a song about famous Jews. There aren't many communities tighter than the American Jewish population. If you have any Jewish friends that happen to be sports fans, I guarantee they know what Jews play professional sports.

As of July 2007 there are 300 million Americans, the LDS population makes up about 1.7 - 1.8%
The simple fact that of the 119 D1 football teams, there are 3-4 coaching top 20 teams is statistically significant, and that doesn't count the other 3-4 nationwide that coach lesser teams. The % should be around 1.7% to coincide with the national average, but it's closer to 8-9% Throw in coaches with BYU ties but not LDS and you're almost at 15% now. Both are astonishing numbers and worthy of note.
This season here are potentially 8-9 LDS quarterbacks that will start for D1 teams (Max Hall-BYU, Hatch-LSU, Longshore-Cal, Olson-UCLA, Carpenter-ASU Bower-Tulsa forgive me for not knowing some of the others)
again, that's a much higher percentage than you'd expect. Again, worthy of conversation.
The fact that 2 LDS singers made the top 5 of American Idol again is another statistical anomoly worthy of conversation. And trust me if there were 2 Jews in the top 5 of Amercan Idol it would have been front page news.
It's a chat group for BYU, where nearly all of us (there are a few exceptions), aside from the trolls are LDS. I think we can safely label you a troll......
