I'm sure I made Nasty 76's day by putting that name as my title. What "Patsy 76" forgets is that NO and I mean "EN" - "OH" Mountain West school would try to get into the WAC; but ANY (and I mean "EN" - "EEEE" WAC school would LOVE to be in the MWC. The WAC schools have beaten BYU lately - so what? They're still in the WAC and their fans have to get their jollies by going to the real schools bulletin boards and posting.

Geez, there are so many lame things said here I almost feel like I should give up. A BSU guy is criticizing our defense after we hold his supposedly unstoppable offense to 28 points? Who was the last team that did that? Looks like Tulsa at 27 points... and that was almost a year ago. And everybody seems to be adopting Airwolf's negative attitude and he's not even a BYU fan. Whats the deal here? Is this a BYU site or what? Some of you guys are worse than the visiting Ute fans. This board is redefining the fairweather fan. If you can't support your team, and have no faith in them, you're not a fan, so stop trying to bring everyone else down with you.

Raiderboy, I like the way you think. The way I see it if you don't support your team you can go to hades and stay. There was an article in the Daily Universe about a week ago quoting John the Revelator specifically related to this subject -paraphrased here, be hot or cold, not lukewarm. Pick a team and stick with them, then you are a true fan.

As you can see by the name- I am an avid supporter of Head Coach Gary Crowton. Stop bashing Crowton! How can you not see he's a good coach? Take a look at the plays they run and you can easily pick out those that earned Coach Crowton the title of "offensive genius" given him by ESPN.

I hold by what I said before, maybe if our players would follow the Honor Code and stop getting kicked off the team then we'd have a better shot than we do now. We CAN have a winning season here and it will happen, providing our QB's quit dropping the snap.

I would like to see our fans actually remaining in their seats during the home games instead of leaving ten minutes early b/c you have lost faith in our team. They need and deserve our support even if they are losing badly. The stadium was nearly empty two minutes into the 4th when we hosted USC. How sad it was to see our defense rile up the crowd, simply because we should be getting excited on our own- just for the support of our team. Rise and Shout Cougars. We can win the rest of these games.

What is the difficulty in understanding that people are not happy with losing? If people pay to see a game and it is not to their liking they have every right to leave. IF you go to a movie and it stinks do you have to stay to support the business? If you stard reading a book and it stinks do you have to read it just because you bought it? I like many others are loyal to BYU and want to see BYU succeed. IF Crowton succeeds then BYU succeeds. IF he fails then BYU fails. BYU football has failed the past two seasons for whatever the reason, injuries, suspensions, etc. The fact remains the team has had difficulties the past two seasons. The question is could another coach have won or been competitive with what crowton had to work with. Certainly there are coaches who could have done better with what was handed them, and there are others who would have done worse. The bottom line is a coach has to put a winning team on the field or he will not be retained period. Whether it is his fault the fault of others or fate he will not be retained. The question is how long do you wait. Could he be successful with Olson, of course, Olson seems to be good enough that he would make any coach look good. IT's when you don't have the Olsons that you earn your money and learn how to coach. If kept long enough i have no doubt that many coaches would learn how to coach, its just at who's expense. The Y can certainly keep any coach they believe is true to his covenants and is capable of getting the job done, it has to be both in todays world of college sports. Donors will not donate to loosing programs and colleges need those monies to run competitive programs. As i have said before i support anyone the Y puts in those positions as long as they are there. That does not mean i agree with everything they say or do. I am a big fan of BYU, not necessarily of who ever may be coaching. I hope they finish up going to a bowl, and have Olson back here with Crowton and some new blood in the backfield to go with the receivers we have. While not real optimistic about the rest of this year, next year i do expect a great deal more success who ever is at the helm.

It is nice to see someone else here who really loves Crowton too! I love him and REALLLLLYYYYY hope he stays. The people calling for his head, are the same that called for Chow, and will be the same calling for the next head coaches head when he has a losing season.

Here's my top three reasons for not blaming Coach Crowton:

1-- With a healthy QB and a supporting cast of Luke Staley he took us 12-0. When injuries hurt the last two games of the season, they lost. Now he MAY FINALLY have another healthy QB and his supporting cast is Todd Watkins and Austin Collie. With Beck's arm getting back to his form every week, we are already seeing the success that can happen.

2-- He does a great job recruiting NEW TALENT to BYU. Those who never thought about coming to BYU are here! And I am not just talking players.

3-- He is LDS, a very honorable Temple Recommend holder, a family man. He lives the school standards and represents the School's Religious backing VERY WELL!

Top Reasons NOT to fire Crowton:

1-- Since 2001 he has not had a season with a consistent starting Quarterback due to injuries or mistakes. He benched Engemann for turnovers in 2002. IF AFTER, a consistently healthy season he proves he can't work with HEALTHY guys...then I may think he is detrimental to the program. As of now...he is NOT detrimental to the program.

2-- A new Coach will not automatically bring back a winning tradition. A new Coach will do well with Crowton's guys but will have to start his OWN way of doing things and will have a rebuilding season. A losing season. IF his guys get injured like Crowton's in 2003 then he will ALSO have a second losing season.

3-- It's too early to make a decision. His winning season this year may be overclouded by premature decisions based on the loud and angry crowd of fans who have lost patience in Crowton after the loss to Stanford and USC.

A_King's Bottom Line: Give Crowton the WHOLE season to make your decision and post your pleas. Especially since you are basing your decision on ENTIRE PAST SEASONS, and at the same time ignoring the VICTORIES of THIS season! Just wait until the end. Then we all can talk.

I for one think it was a great disservice to Crowton for the administration to say there were more layoffs planned. They need to speak up and say what is going on. It is unfair for the coaches, players and future players contemplating attemding the Y. IF they are planning on letting him go they should let everyone know. If they are planning on giveing more time they should announce that as well. Who works well under the scrutinty of bosses and critics, not very many of us. I think under the circumstances Crowton has done very well. He is replacing a icon in college football and he knows his job, reputation, lively hood may be on the line. I think he is breath of fresh air to the whole sports program at BYU. I think they should give him all the time he needs and let him decide whether he is making the grade. From what little i know of him he is an honorable man and if he is not succeeding and doesn't think he will succeed, i think he will step down and take other offers. Viva Coach Crowton.
