What I'm interested to see:
1) If Vakapuna is for real. Of course all that happens in spring must be taken with a grain of salt but I was a little worried with the loss of Tahi. I loved the change of pace he brought and when we could play "run you over" football. It got the team fired up. If Vakapuna can feel that spot even a little bit I'll be happy.
2) One word, McKay. We've heard a lot about the kid but I'm interested to see how he makes the switch to outside receiver and if he can possibly be the deep threat that the offensive needs and become someone that opposing defenses need to plan for.
3) I want to see how the 3-4 scheme works and how much help we really need on the D-line. More pressure from the front is imperative to get in order to help out the DBs.
4) I want to see if the DBs have any better form and technique than they did a year ago. New coach, new year, could be a fresh start for these guys. Impress me, please!!! Could just be wishful thinking though.
5) Most of all, I want to go to be as much of a fan as I can be. I mean, it's free. What else does a fan need? Remember, recruits are going to be there and they need to see a good turnout.

Obviously, many of you are able to follow football more than others. I am one who is not really able to follow so closely. I would like to see what you think we should keep our eyes on as we watch the Spring game on Saturday. Tell us what you think we should be paying particular attention to. I think it would be interesting for everyone to learn what players/positions may be most interesting to watch. If anyone knows players #'s as well, that might help. Thanks guys.

There are many things you could "keep your eyes on" while watching the spring game. You might care to look over your shoulder and gaze at the Y on Y Mountain. You might want to watch the huge teleprompter screen in the South endzone. You might want to scan the crowd looking to score a date (disregard if married). However, I feel that your time will be best spent if you keep your eyes on the game.

Seriously, pay attention to the offensive line to see if they can handle blitzing linebackers and keep the defense off of Beck. Watch the D-Line to see if they are any better at getting penetration in a pass rush than they were last year. Finally, count how many times the secondary either breaks up a pass, intercepts it, or gets burned. I think those three areas are the biggest question marks and should garner the most attention (since apparently they aren't going to play any special teams).

After last year, I have come to realize that the Blue & White Game is essentially something to appease (even if only partially) my football craving. Bronco's blitzes last year were fairly vanilla, the offense ran some very basic, base formations and plays, and the 3 or 4 scuffles added a good bit of spice to it all.

It was a good experience, but it is not anywhere near a full-blown game.

I actually found it more interesting to watch each unit do their warm ups agility drills to see how big and athletic some of those dudes are.

Last year the offense was basic in the blue and white game. The funny thing is, last years blue & white game formations the same as the Boston College game. I expect the offense to be quite a bit sharper and quite a bit more complex as far as saavy play calling, formations, energy, substitutions, knowledge of each player, route running assignments, etc...

The biggest thing I will be looking at is the secondary, is there any improvement? Are our corners playing the recievers in a physical, confident and aggressive manner or are they 12 yards off the line of scrimmage afraid of getting burned every play? It will be interesting to see our new secondary guys.

I'm going to get there early to get a front row seat if I can.

While I agree that these are the things to watch for, there is one problem with it. If the offensive line handles blitzing linebackers and keeps the defense off of Beck, our D-Line is not getting a better penetration and a pass rush than they were last year. If the D-Line is getting penetation and a better pass rush, then the offensive ine isn't handling the blitzing linebackers and keeping the defense off of Beck. So how do you really judge where the improvements are? I guess we'll see tomorrow if we can tell.
