The story of the day really was the defense, I was quite impressed by how in position the secondary was, and how quickly they closed. You can tell there has been a lot of fundamentals being taught.
That is good because that has ALWAYS been BYU's defensive problem. I said it at the beginning of last years season. My biggest concern has always been fundamentals and tackling. I just always assumed(insert assumption joke) that this was all cleared up once you got to the college level. BYU has always let me down in this regard. Please no more arm tackles or over pursuing this year. Wrap up and drive your feet and watch the hips!

I enjoyed the game and thought the defense improved a lot already. The secondary had good positioning throughout the scrimmage and I was pleased.

McKay Jacobsen had a nice catch that was ruled out of bounds but in the replay he definitely looked in. He dropped another pass but seemed to just not be ready for it. I sat right behind him on the sidelines and he was pissed. He is a natural winner and I don't expect that to happen again. I saw a future legend.

The biggest and most pleasant surprise to me came from a player who just warmed up but didn't play in the game: Nathan Meikle. I watched him run every route and he looks poised to have a dominating season. He had blazing speed--faster than last year and looked like he put on some more muscle. He ran good routes most times but when he didn't he was fast enough to make up for it. He caught everything too. My prediction: 1,000 receiving yards barring injury (knock on wood).

Vakapuna was incredible, and the D seemed to have a really hard time getting past his stiff arms. The rest of the RB's looked good. I thought that Hudson reminded me a little bit of Ronnie Jenkins. The TE corp appeared to be as good as mentioned, although So'oto did drop a few passes. Has Andrew George already gone on a mission? Or is he even LDS?

That is very true. Even when passes were caught on them, they didn't look like a bunch of idiots running around reaching and grasping for the receivers. Everything seemed to be kept in front of them.

Yes, Andrew George is LDS and an RM.

Fui impressed me the most today, he'd have several guys hanging on to him and he'd just keep going. I'm very optimistic about the running game with CB and Fui (and Latu looked good too).

The biggest surprise to me was how many people were there! I couldn't go last year, was this year's attendance better than last year?
