Listen, Tico hater, get your facts right, and just admit that the new man on campus is already out-performing all of our other secondary guys. Once again, he will be starting by the fall.
....... but don't allow your personal bias to influence your judgment of true skill and talent.
Tico Pringle is the only secondary guy that's even built like a true Division I athlete. Justin Robinsons' 5'6" 150lbs frame, would not qualify him for a scout team on any major division I conference team. Please be objective to all players, not just your personal favorites or somehow connected with you on a personal level.
I disagreed with your assessments on Tico, and you call me a Tico hater? . In truth, I responded to your crowning him "the best etc. etc.
IMO, you, and others are overly excited about one or two aspects of his play and ignored the rest that do not align with your take on things. My take was he also showed some weaknesses, which I believe the coaches have also seen throughout the spring.
Tico made a great tackle, perhaps the coverage is debatable, but he finished well which I give him credit for it. I just think his initial coverage was less than stellar, you don't see it that way. I think your missing the weakness and seeing only the big hit, etc.
My overridding point is this: In your distain of last years DB play you are placing all your hopes on the new guy with the catchy name. You are hanging your hopes on what you selctively "saw" happen on Saturday. You are sold on Tico and have given up on anyone who played DB last year.
In spite of the other posts to the contrary: This also happened Saturday.
Someone wearing #17, was on the short side of the field ( BYU does not play right and left, but short or wide side of the field and the players may switch sides depending on the assignment ). He had a zone assignment on the Touchdown play. In spite of the "corners never cover tight ends" hogwash. In end zone situations, and, or, in zone coverage, that does not apply at all. On the play in question the LB had the short man, and the safety the deep end-zone hook, it left Tico to cover the out pattern George ran . It was his man because he was the only guy in his zone.
Frankly, all this has nothing to do with whether it was Tico or J-rob, or Brandon, or Kyle etc, etc. My entire point from the beginning was the "crowning" of anyone, in this case Tico, as the greatest defensive player of the game based on Saturdays scrimmage was not objective at all. IMO, A lot of other factors/ prejudices affected your call on that. Objective, day to day evaluations and coaches seeing the fine details must be added to the mix before crowning anyone as the "best cover corner" , sure fire starter, only true DB body etc. etc. as you have asserted.
