I really don't think he does. I have never been a big fan of Beck. I have yet to see him take control in a huddle in crucial situations-(not entirely true, but close). It's always a laid back approach. Wipe the hands on the towel, lick the fingers, look around, wipe the hands, lick the fingers, look around, etc. I want to see him take control of the team and lead them to a win. Last years' New Mexico game is more of what I want to see out of Beck. He's a good player, but I'm not sure about him being a good leader.

Okay, then do you think this lack of leadership will greatly hinder our chances to win some big games next year? Because, honestly, I believe if he doesn't have that in him at BC, AZ, TCU or Utah, we could loose any of those games. I've heard a lot of people say that AZ should be an easy win. I disagree. I think they'll be better than people think. Ayoob, the qb for Cal last season, said in an interview that the most confusing defense he faced last season was AZ. I was surprised when I heard that from him since they ended up beating them convincingly.[/quote]

The whole "champion" crap is a bunch of baloney. I hate it when people buy into the "it" argument: as in, John Beck doesn't have "it" because he doesn't win games all by himself like Ty Detmer did (even though Ty Detmer's whole career is characterized only by the Heisman and the Miami games, not any of the losses).

The bottom line is that the "it" crap is purely a product of environment. Beck doesn't have the team to work with that Detmer did, and unfortunately for him he will always be remembered for the losses due to that factor rather than the wins. Ratliff is OOZING with "it" because he "won" two games- both against bad or unmotivated defenses. Forget all other factors, like say the rest of the team or the opponent, Ratliff has "it" and Beck doesn't.

Beck is going to be a great QB. I'm not saying he's gonna pull a Jim McMahon and throw the "Miracle Bowl" pass, or a Steve Young, Ty Detmer, or Brandon Doman, but he's gonna be a great QB for us next year, he's the best we've got, and he's all we really need with what we've got now on offense. That is good enough for me.
