Can't say I agree with this. I think John Stockton is one of the best ever to play PG, but was he better than Magic Johnson? No. He's a close 2nd though. Magic could do it all... score, dish out assists and rebound, whereas Stockton is known primarily for his assists only, although he could score when he needed to it seemed. As for rebounds, Stock was no Magic. But Stockton might have been more mentally tough, was definitely a clutch performer and knew how to set-up and effectively get the Jazz offense in sync, which makes him a close 2nd to Magic.
Stockton didn't rebound as well simply because the guy was short. He didn't score as much as Johnson simply because he didn't like to score -- but Malone said he'd never be in any record books if he didn't play with John. Johnson is about 5,000 assists away from Stockton and another Stockton's strength you completely forgot, Airwolf, is steels. Johnson is not even in top-10.
I suppose it all depends on what you value in PG position. IMHO, Stockton was the best. The only thing that makes him different from Johnson is the absence of Champ. ring. But the only reason for this is simply because Karl and John played in the same era with Jordan and were ready to win the ring during the years when nobody except Bulls could have won it. I doubt Johnson would have won it either if his best years were middle and end of 90s.
