Living in Morgantown, WV (WVU) the only college football I get is the Big East. I agree their record this year is better and they may be a little tougher overall than the MWC, but year to year they are no different than the MWC minus the top two schools from each. They are so horrible. Week after week I go to Milan Puskar stadium and watch WVU play horrible strategicless football (Slaton right, Slaton left) and kill teams. Rutgers is improved, but as a whole they don't deserve to be a BCS conference any more than any other mid-major with two tough top schools. Why do think Miami was so good for so long? They played in the Big East, and now that they are gone, they are no longer a top 25 team.

Miami's power wasn't fueled by the Big East. They built their power as an independent and then joined Big East. Their demise is due to other circumstances not conference affiliation.

It's also unfair to compare conferences "minus the top two teams" because that assumes that the top two teams are on par. That is not the case. BYU and Utah aren't even close to being on par with Louisville and West Virginia. If you are going to evaluate conference strength, you have to take the entire conference as a whole.

That being said other than 2004 the MWC hasn't been close to touching the Big East with top to bottom success.

A simple analysis....

BYU's 4 wins have been blowouts with the games decided by the end of the third quarter (TCU scored garbage TD in final two minutes).

BYU's 2 losses have been on the road to BCS schools by a combined 10 points.

So....essentially BYU is 11 points away from being undefeated with two wins over ranked opponents (BC and TCU).

A loss is a loss, but you can't get much closer to that for being undefeated. BYU has to be considered the best 4-2 team in the nation. They lost their games narrowly, yet won their games in huge blowouts. I believe they are hitting their stride now, with the only real test coming on the Colorado road trips. If they bust through those, watch out Utah!

Which is exactly why BYU's 4-2 record is deceiving because they are better than their record!

Awwww. I'm sorry I don't subscribe to the-Big-East-sucks-because-my mom-said-so argument. You should appreciate what you have in Morgantown. West Virginia has defeated more legit top 25 teams in the past 12 months as BYU has in the past decade. Enjoy.

I must apologize. That last comment was on impulse. I want the Big East to be legitimate more than you know, especially now that the Mountaineers are my second team, but I still have to disagree that they are a legitimate competitive BCS conference. They may be better than the MWC, but not by much. I was simply arguing that BYU's 4-2 record is legitimate. Just as legitimate as WVU's 5-0 record that includes wins over 1-AA Eastern Washington and 1-4 Marshall.

You can, however, keep your "my-mom-told-me-so" bulls*&^ to yourself.

BYU's 4 wins have come against Tulsa, Utah State, TCU and SDSU. The average ranking of all 4 schools is 88. They've lost to Arizona and Boston College, whose average ranking is 39. Interesting. I can't recall a time when the conference has been so weak? BYU is going to soundly demolish its 3rd high school team this year in 2 weeks (UNLV).

I also want to make a prediction: BYU will officially be bowl eligible on Nov. 4, but possibly as early as October 28. When will it take more than a mere 6 wins to become bowl eligible? Maybe the bigger question is: how long before there is a bowl for every college football team?

Man... the MWC sure is a dumpy league. The average ranking of all 9 teams (as of October 9) is 78. #78 in the nation right now is none other than powerhouse Kent State! That is embarrassing!!!

That is some pretty sad logic. Since when do you combine the rankings of multiple teams to find out how good they are? Just goes to show you can make stats say anything you want them to. The independents average is 66, so they must suck too, am I correct? Little known fact: You play one team at a time, not the average of all the teams....

Not to beat a dead horse, but as of today the average ranking of a MWC team is 66...
