It should be noted that Jordan Hill was much more prolific, in high school, and much more hyped, coming out of Idaho than was Rob Morris.

It should be noted, for our Meridian friend Iceman, that while Boise State U. flames are ignited, some of your Boise High schools appear to be whimps.

For example the historical Boise flagship football program, BORAH (remember the "WE ARE -- BORAH", hired Dirk Koetter's younger brother (and Highland graduate), to coach Borah 2 years ago. He had coached Highland (following his older brother and father) to several state championships. He quit last year because of complaints, from the parents, that he expected too much from the kids, and he was demanding too much of their time. As a result, Boise State will most likely need to keep coming to Pocatello for quality recruits.

Borah, in the 60's and 70's and into the 80's, ran one of the top football programs in the nation. They would win games easily by over 50 points). For example, Ara Parseguin (Notre Dame coach in 60's/70's time frame) routinely visited and recruited Borah kids, and often stated that Borah was as good as any high program in the nation. In addition, one year, the University of Idaho football team was crippled with an unusual amount of injuries. The U of Idaho coaches began walking the Fraternities and Dorms to locate any kids who had played football for Borah High school.

Boise State has gone from Junior college, to state, college, to state university. Regarding academics, a tee shirt worn at U of I states:

Thanks for the info on the Kraigthorpe and ISU history. Their qb was Mike Machurik (sp) I got to go to their 1st playoff game (I think it was 81). It was very much like BYU's game. Their running back played a lot like Kelley Smith on BYU's 84 team. I noticed that on most every play one or both of the wide outs headed for the end zone while Machurik would hit this kid or the tight end. He'd throw occasionally to those streaking ends but wasn't hitting them too much. At half time ISU was ahead about 14 to 0. In the second half Machurik started hitting those ends and by 3rd quarter Rhode Island had left the mini dome at least mentally. I left when it was 3o something to 0. Rhode Island never scored.

People weren't used to what BYU and ISU were doing and hardly knew how to stop them. They sure were fun to watch.

Merril Hoge was in a ward in Cincinnati while I was serving my mission there. I know he wasnt a big BYU fan but I do know he was LDS. He never went to church but his wife did. We had dinner there a few times and he thought he was the sh!$.

My family and I lived in Pittsburgh from 6/2000 to 9/2002, and he and his family were at church for several Sundays in the summer of '02. I was told that he and is family came to Pittsburgh every summer to visit, and that they would attend the Pittsburgh 4th ward. Never talked to him, so I don't know if he "thought that he was the sh!$." :roll:

I just talked to my bro-in-law who went to Pittsburgh on his mission. He said that Merril was active, and taught in YMs (during the off season). He really seemed to like the guy. But that was many years ago.

Thats interesting....His wife would attend every once and awhile....I think the reason Merril would never attend is he had to fly to Nyc for work(EPSN analyst)...My comp and I actually gave his wife a blessing for something can't remember......that was back in early '02.
