Its about friggin time... I hope he gets all the praise the kid deserves. I've wanted to jump thought the screen and punch the "weak arm" sayers for weeks... how do you throw a football 60 mph and have a week arm? Before the season started there were comparisons to Drew Brees, its nice to have them resurfacing.

My grandpa was a scout for the LA Rams and then for the 49ers and he has an interesting perspective on JB. According to him, JB and Jamarcus Russell are the top two QBs in the pool, depending on what type of QB you are looking for. He sees Russell as a combination of Drew Bledsoe (a statue in the pocket with a beautiful deep ball) and Vince Young (erratic short passes but escapability once he gets out of the pocket ). He says JB is the best pure passer to enter the draft since Drew Brees.

As for why ESPN and some of the other media services don't have JB higher on their list--they're the media. Throughout the season all the pundits have their own opinions and pretty much go by those with draft projections. It's only as the draft nears that they begin to consult the pro-scouts to get a better guage. Brady Quinn is still ranked high due to his preseason hype and the weak schedule he got. According to gpa, Quinn could turn out to be a real basketcase quarterback if it gets tough a'la Rex Grossman as he has shown a tendency to panic under pressure.

Only when the combine draws near will the media pundits begin to evaluate NFL potential instead of NCAA performance.

Like he said, as things get closer to draft day the media, like Mortenson, begin talking to the people whose opinions matter and revisions are made. That is exactly what you see happening here.

Whatever the case, Jo finds himself in a prime spot. QB's taken in the first round have way too much pressure to translate the college game to NFL speed quickly. They never give them enough time to make the transition. QB's taken out of the first fly under the radar and have more time to develop. Sure this isn't always the case, but it seems so more often than not. As an Eagles fan I sure hope Andy sees what I/We do in Jo.

Okay, I have to blow my own horn for a minute here....for the past couple of weeks I've been predicting that John Beck would go in the second round even though he wasn't projected to go there. I felt that there would be a handful of teams who really wanted him but wouldn't talk about it because he could easily go under the radar (which he did until this week). Now the word is out that a few teams really, really like him and so it is generating a buzz with the other teams. I just had to bring it up. :wink:

On another note, one of the fathers of a child on my son's flag football team is a former Ute. He played during the time I was on my mission 92-94 so I wasn't familiar with him. Anyway, he likes to talk alot of smack about the Cougars (don't they all?) but he admits he is a big John Beck fan. He believes he is better than Quinn (again, don't we all?). I applauded him for making such a bold statement and obviously agreed with him. My first introduction to him was him smack-talking that no Cougar fans were allowed at the youth games and my reply was "what, they don't accept winners here?". I struck a nerve and it was really fun. But he wasn't a jerk, we actually visited quite a bit. But I love to get under his skin a little bit. Hey, he drew first blood with the smack-talk, time to fire back.
