We don't know the whole story.
Maybe he got the tatoo before President Hinckley made it clear (again) in the late 90's that tatoos/men with piercings/etc. were not in keeping with the teachings of the church.
Maybe he got it when he was a rebel but has since changed.

+1 Karma. I love to say that the easiest thing in the world is to solve other peoples problems.
I have to say though that it is hard teaching your 9 and 7 year old that certin things are unequivocally wrong, and simeltainously be accepting ofothers who do those same things. For example, my kids know that they must wear a helmet when skateboarding. Yet they see others who don't. I have to tell them that they are going to get beat up if they start ratting out 13 year olds not wearing helmets, so just let it be...
