I was bored at work, so I decided to check up on some stats for Unga. A ton of people have been ranting and raving about him, but I wasn't all that impressed, just because it seems like he is quietly getting his hundred yard games.
So I guess, all in all, this is really just for me, and anyone else who wasn't sure how good Unga really was/is.
So far this year Unga has rushed 63 times for 306 yards, thats an average of a STELLAR 4.85 and we'll, of course round up to a 4.9 yard per carry! along with 2 TDs on the ground, which is also really impressive, because everytime we're in within the 5 yard line, its Manase Tonga who gets the ball.
Unga also has 18 catches out of the backfeild for 254 yards, which is 14.1 yards a catch!
for anyone who didn't think Unga was good/great, or is sitting on the fence, I hope this helps make up your mind about this kid. Oh yeah, he's a freshman!!!
This kid is the real deal, for years to come!
Before the season I tried to persuade everyone on here to believe that Unga would be a stud this year (including McGregor, who doubted). I even said and still believe that he'll be All-MWC before he leaves, it actually might happen as soon as this year.
Even though I'm biased, (my bro played with him as a junior) I knew the kid was the real deal. I never saw Harvey in person as I was on my mission when he played, but after watching the T-view highlight film I was sold. If you all would have seen his highlights before the season there wouldn't have been any doubters, in my mind. He's such a competitor and rarely takes a play off, if ever, not to mention he's pretty quick for a big guy and punnishes defenders.
I'm surprised that there's been word of him needing to improve his blocking because that was something that I was really impressed with from his highlight video. The kid demolished blitzing LB's and also DE's (his blocks were the most devasting hits on the highlight film). From what it sounds like, BYU's blocking scheme is a lot more complicated than T-view's so I think it's a matter of learning the scheme rather than not wanting to bang heads. He's never afraid to hit someone, so I expect to see him light more people up while blocking in the near future. He's the total package and I'm glad he decided to come here and not Utah!
