Mr. Mike Slive, the coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series has made even clearer how baseless and spineless his lies are. Earlier in the week he said this:
"And I have three concepts that I always say that for me personally are important:
"One is protect the regular season. It might be trite to say there's a playoff every weekend, but there is. Secondly, we value the Bowl system. It gives a lot of student athletes an opportunity to compete for additional championships. And thirdly, there's an academic component. I know there are cynics about that, but there's an academic component, and we are going to keep football as a one-semester sport."

My major point of contention is with his first "concept." The second two points are simply smokescreens used to draw attention away from the real points, you know, the ones which, if seen for what they really are (hoarding money and power), would paint the organization in a poor light indeed.
Briefly: (Addressing point three) No serious playoff proposal I have ever seen places the championship game ANY later than the game was last year, and if it IS all about academics, why was it fine for the Ohio State players to miss TWO weeks of their second semester (Psst! Mike! That's the one AFTER the one-semester season). Further, any serious playoff proposal I've ever seen places the opening round as the last week of the regular season ANYWAY... (leading to point two) Nothing about a 7-game, 8 team Second-Round-thru-Championship-Game bracket would invalidate any of the other TWENTY-FIVE bowls, at least not any more than the five current Big-Money bowls invalidate them.
That takes me to his crowning point, the one he hangs his proverbial hat on:
"It might be trite to say there's a playoff every weekend, but there is."
This is a disgusting lie! The "National Championship Game" was just announced. So Mike, explain this to me.
IF the regular season truly
IS a playoff, why is:
- Kansas's playoff a
single-elimination tournament, while
- Hawaii is automatically placed in the CONSOLATION BRACKET, that's right, LESS than SINGLE-ELIMINATION, while
- West Virginia, Missouri, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma
and many others are in a DOUBLE-ELIMINATION tournament,
- AND Louisiana State somehow warrants an UNTHINKABLE
TRIPLE-ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT???? I've been around sports all my life, and I promise you, I've NEVER seen any playoff that's a triple-elimination tournament. By the way, if all things are equal, that means fully TWELVE teams are still in the runnings for your little "championship."
Mr. Slive, you prove once again that you and your organization have no honor. You have no decency, and you stand as a MOCKERY of Sportsmanship and Fair-Play. I DEPLORE your slanderous tactics, your avarice and your callous desire to engender bias and despotism in a system of sport that ONCE was known for its honor.
All who feel the same should stand against you and your organizations web of greed and lies.
