The Reservation comment, I can give an ignorance pass to. The Trail of Tears comment, that's just wrong. Try holding up a Holocaust sign when you play the Israeli national v-ball team, and then get out alive. There's a reason why terrorists have never hijacked an Israeli airline (bad Mo-Fo's).

I never defended the content of her statements because they were overboard. However, I accurately pointed out that a drunk NFL fan blurting out bad things about Indians to WHITE Washington Redskin football fans is NOT the same thing as telling a group of Jews you wish for another Holocaust or telling mormons you want another Hans Mill. Why ? Because White Washington Redskin fans are NOT Indians and therefore do not possess the necessary standing to feel the same reaction Mormons would feel about comments regarding Hans Mill. Can a white person be offended by racial remarks towards blacks ? Yes, but not in the SAME way a black person could. Therefore, the above difference is clear to me and all clear thinking people.

Let me try to put this into perspective. I'm of Native American ancestry (Blackfoot), and there are some individuals out there who make it their duty in life to be offended, for whatever reason. Though, political activism is a common culprit. The sign that the women displayed, was yes, inappropriate but, certainly not racist. Her sign was directed to the Utah team and not the Ute tribe. I was not offended, and someone with a little common sense shouldn't have either.

Sure there are some that are, but I have some good friends that are utah fans that are good upstanding members of the community, and are neither drunk nor stupid. The phrase "Ute nation" was meant to refer to the group of University of Utah fans, not the literal "Ute Nation" sovereign tribe or tribes of Native Americans.

And with respect to the "drunk and stupid" comment...it was simply hyperbole.

And Ttexis Tim, I may have you confused with some other Ute guy that posts here and on utefans.net, and if so, I appologise....

If I had taken a picture of every stupid, offensive, distasteful, bigoted, hateful, blah blah blah blah blah sign that I had ever seen a Ute fan holding at a sports event targeted towards BYU and the LDS faith, well then there isnt a news paper in print thick enough to display them! You are right when you say that both sides have their idiots, but, every single stupid BYU fan mishap that has ever happened is called to the floor, blown out of proportion and magnified by 10! Why? Because 99% of the time BYU fans are Mormons and Mormons are expected to not be offensive and rude. When it comes to your Ute fans it is the expectation to be over the top and rude! My wife's entire family are MEGA UTE fans so I am NOT saying ute fans are bad people! There are just as many good people that are ute fans as there are BYU fans. Well, almost as many! I am just saying when BYU messes up it is uber highlighted, but when the utes do it, ahhh its ok he can act like that cause hes drunk!

I do not condone any type of racist comments, though I do condone the battle of the fan towards an opposing fan.
The FAN is the operative word
If the fan says ignorant slams against BYU, it's mascot, cheerleaders, co-eds, the elderly, their uni's, the fandom, so be it. I can and have done the same.
When the media has an opportunity to slam the church or try to, they do it from the top ropes. They are selling news for profit, that's it.
Apologies are never reciprocated to wit, the church never apologizes for FAN behavior, if the church came out in the Ensign and said -the Ute nation sucks- well there may be a need for an apology. The church has nothing to do with a FANs comment. I've yet to see Elder ----- come on a FAN blog and apologize for what a Cougar, Ute or any other member of the church has said.
Media will always have selective amnesia, it's what makes them so frustrating.
