Wade for SDSU had the kind of game last night that Trent should have had. He was gaurded by players smaller and slower than him all night and he took advantage. Trent had the same matchups and did not take advantage.

Two points:
Trent had a lousy game, get over it.
If I were Trent I wouldn't want to spend another year playing for a bunch of lousy fans who do little but rip on one of the better players ever to wear a cougar uniform.
As a lousy fan, I'd rather see Trent enter the draft now, embarrass the program by not getting drafted, and go off and play for some obscure European team than play another game with his potential talent and underachieving track record.
So yes, go away Plaisted -- you're an underachiever and don't deserve to wear the jersey.
The fact is, I'd rather have someone like a Jake Shoff body and a Travis Hansen (or Lee Cummard) heart play under the basketball than someone with a Plaisted body and a Plaisted heart.
I think some of these guys need a good ripping, and its pretty clear that they aren't getting it from Rose -- it might as well come from the fans.
Jake Shoff had a lot of heart too. That guy hustled. I loved it when he came off the bench because you knew someone was about to give their all. I'd take Jake Shoff's heart in Trent any day.
Personally, I hope Trent reads this board. Doubt he does, but I think it would serve as a wake-up call. Granted I am not half the athlete he is, but I had a bunch of nay sayers it would fire me up to prove them wrong. Trent doesn't seem out there to prove anything and think that's part of the problem.

Plaisted did look awful. But then again, so did a lot of BYU guys. Murdock, Burgess, Tavernari in spells, Freddette... basically everyone but Cummard, Loyd, and maybe Miles and Collinsworth.
Burgess played really well and Collinsworth was 1-7 from the field, that's flat out terrible despite his 6 boards.

If I was Trent, I'd ditch the crappy BYU fans right now. Some of you would have been right at home with the BYU fans who booed Danny Ainge early in his college career when he had off games.
Why not appreciate the guy for once? Appreciate the fact that he has been the core around which Dave Rose has revitalized the BYU basketball program. Appreciate the fact that he works his butt off to try to be a great basketball player. I don't know Trent personally, but the players I know consider him to be one of the hardest working players on the team. Give the guy some room instead of jumping on and off the bandwagon every five seconds.
Healthy criticism is just fine. Pointing out ways and manners in which he could improve are helpful (not things like "man he sucks at free throws" but helpful things like "it would be good for Trent to stick around so he can play against Miles this offseason" . But pontificating idiots who make it their goal to rip Trent down aren't helping anybody but themselves.
Elder Oaks had some things to say about this type of criticism. And don't tell me that it doesn't apply to basketball. Don't forget that Trent is a real person who feels real pain. Trent is a young kid! The way he is treated by BYU fans may have a significant impact on him for the rest of his life.
Here's Elder Oaks:
My cautions against criticism refer to another of its meanings, which the dictionary defines as "the act of passing severe judgment; censure; faultfinding." (Ibid., s.v. "criticism.") Faultfinding is "the act of pointing out faults, especially faults of a petty nature." (Ibid., s.v. "faultfinding.") It is related to "backbiting," which means "to attack the character or reputation of [a person who is not present]." (Ibid., s.v. "backbite.") This kind of criticism is generally directed toward persons, and it is generally destructive.
Faultfinding, evil speaking, and backbiting are obviously unchristian. The Bible commands us to avoid "evil speakings." (See 1 Pet. 2:1.) It tells us to "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you." (Eph. 4:31.) Modern revelations direct us to avoid "backbiting," "evil speaking," and "find[ing] fault one with another." (See D&C 20:53; D&C 42:27; D&C 88:124; and D&C 136:23.)
We are given these commandments for a reason. The Apostle Paul advised the Saints to "grieve not the holy Spirit of God" (Eph. 4:30) by evil speaking. Of faultfinders, President Brigham Young said, "The Spirit of God has no place in [such] persons." (Journal of Discourses, 8:13.) The primary reason we are commanded to avoid criticism is to preserve our own spiritual well-being, not to protect the person whom we would criticize.
Elder George Albert Smith said this about criticism: "Aren't we rather prone to see the limitations and the weaknesses of our neighbors? Yet that is contrary to the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There is a class of people who find fault and criticize always in a destructive way. There is a difference in criticism. If we can criticize constructively under the influence of the Spirit of the Lord, we may change beneficially and properly some of the things that are being done. But if we have the spirit of faultfinding, of pointing out the weaknesses and failings of others in a destructive manner, that never comes as the result of the companionship of the Spirit of our Heavenly Father and is always harmful." (In Conference Report, Oct. 1934, p. 50.)

Quoting an apostle and calling us pontificating idiots in the same paragraph is a hoot.
Once again, if there wasn't mention of the NBA, there wouldn't be nearly as much "pontificating"
Seriously timmy get a grip, that last post was pathetic at best. If we need a den mother to tell us what we can and can't say on this board, you'll be the 1st person I look up.
Trent is soft and not NBA caliber, this is a chat room for sports. We're certainly entitled to our opinions, especially if you're going to call us idiots.
But "if you were Trent" I'd hope you'd make a smart career decision and not base it on what fans think. Basing your decision on what fans think, would be as stupid as quoting general authorities and calling people idiots at the same time. (Have I pontificated that enough for ya?)

Sounds like the idea for a new thread!
"If I was Trent," I would play better basketball.
