Bigearv32Wow, so much hostility from the compassionate Christians. You would have thought the guy hit and killed someone. There is a Huge difference in the country from a drunk driver killing someone and a guy who is accused of a "Class 3 misdemeanor".
Get a clue guys; this is a man from a different world, who is trying his best to live in an all white, non-alcoholic (which is more influential than hitting a home run with your girlfriend) Mormon world.
Did he make a mistake, sure. I guess you that are badgering him would have been the same who wanted the Duke Lacrosse team shut down and "kick-those-boys-outta-school,-along-with-their-coach!!!" keep riding your high horse- one day it'll pay off.
This is the first time I am posting on this issue. While I feel that some of the posters have gone a little overboard, Broadus got what he deserved.
First off, lets suppose that he was playing at CSU instead of BYU. At the very least he would have been suspended for a number of games, and may well have been kicked off the team. But he probably wouldn't have been kicked out of school. I just bring this up to show that DUI is a serious offense, no matter where it occurs.
But the point that you miss Bigearv32 is that Broadus did this knowing that the rules a different at BYU, and that this type of behavior would not only cost him his spot on the team, but his spot in the University. This was his second year at BYU. He'd already lived through 3 semester under the Honor Code. This wasn't some guy screwing up after he'd been at BYU for 2 weeks.
I'm sad to see him leave. I'm sad to see him leave under such circumstances. But the fact is he broke the rules. And when rules are broken, there are consequences.
Another thing I don't get is everytime a minority player breaks the Honor Code, and is punished, you've got all these people lining up saying "you don't know what it is like to live in an all-white, all-Mormon, all-dry (as in alcohol) community." If you don't want to live like white Mormons in a dry community, then don't live there.
Don't try to spin it like BYU and the white male Mormon administrators are somehow responsible for the final outcome of this situation. It won't work on this site. The fact is Broadus broke the rules. So unless there was a white Mormon male sitting next to Broadus, telling him to keep pounding them back, there isn't much blame to be heaped upon the white Mormon community.
