Ah, yes. Miles. He knows he's going to get some abuse today at 2 p.m. in the Huntsman Center, though how much remains to be seen (and heard). He's a reserve center, but he'll surely get picked on after what happened three winters ago. Chants? Signs? Remains to be discovered.

So who will it be? Surely there will be more intimate (and usually clever) lines hurled at the Cougars, just as Utah will get when it plays at the Marriott Center on Feb. 20.

"Their fans are good, too," Bryant said. "It's the same at both places. Once they know you heard them, they've got you."

Trent Plaisted will no doubt be a closely watched topic, with his lousy free throw shooting. Point guard Ben Murdock remembers a sign from last year for his teammate Lee Cummard.

Is Cummard the world's ugliest human, or its sexiest troll? Yowzers.

It's always interesting at Utah.

"They actually are pretty creative," said BYU coach Dave Rose, who is in his third year as head coach and was an assistant starting in 1997. "I can't remember any of them, but there are times when ... I try not to look at anything ... but every once in a while you see one and think, my goodness, that college student has a career in creativity."

It will be interesting to witness how much Miles is remembered. A lot of time has passed, a lot of players have moved on. Even both teams have different coaches.

Miles is married, his wife will be at the game but he doesn't think she knows about the incident with Bogut, who left after that second college season to become a No. 1 NBA draft pick.

Miles smiles a little, recalling the frustration but also how much life and emotions have changed in three years.

The Cougars, then mired in a horrific season, played some of their best ball against Utah that January day in 2005. They played with heart and conviction, which wasn't always the case in league play that year. It exemplified just how much a hated opponent can bring out the best in a group.

But Utah, which wound up in the Sweet 16 that season, was way too much -- even in Provo -- for a team that finished 9-21. Bogut, on the infamous play, accepted a bounce pass in the key, slammed it home.

As Miles was beat on the play, he quickly turned to run back up court. Bogut, however, did not hang onto the rim -- and he crashed down on Miles. They tumbled to the floor.

A swift kick to the back (more like the lower left shoulder, actually) was just another story line to discuss from a hostile series that has had 244 meetings.

Miles earned a technical foul and some historical fame.

"It was something that wasn't meant to happen, but some people give me a hard time about it," Miles said.

Step right up, and take it on the chin. Or at least in the ear.

BYU, which has lost its last three road games, two in blowout fashion, has to be ready for anything against its arch-enemy -- which lost both meetings last year to the Cougars.

Utah is also coming off a conference road loss (San Diego State in overtime) but is 7-1 at home this year, reversing its fortunes from a year ago with Jim Boylen in charge and a bunch of players from the previous two losing seasons taking on a new toughness.

Aside from the insults, that's what the Cougars have to be most ready for.

"I think they want some payback, so we've got to be ready to play," Murdock said.
