The BYU men's golf team is looking to improve on its solid season as the Cougars host the 46th annual PING Cougar Classic at the Riverside Country Club today and Saturday.
A field of 14 teams, including every Division I golf program in the state of Utah and No. 46 St. Mary's College, will compete in BYU's lone home tournament of the season.
"There will be a lot of great young golfers competing out at Riverside," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "Hopefully we'll get after it and get on track. It would be an important victory for us if we can play well."
BYU won the 2007 Cougar Classic with a team score of 32-under-par 832, and All-American BYU golfer Daniel Summerhays won the individual tournament, shooting 67-71-67--205.
The team has had tremendous success at the Classic, earning 33 tournament championships in the last 46 years. Despite a challenging season this year, BYU is looking forward to the opportunity to play at its home course with the support of its fans.
The 14-team field includes: Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Idaho State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, Utah, Utah State, UVSC, Washington State, Weber State and Wyoming.
Teams will play 36 holes today with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. The public is invited to attend the tournament. Admission is free.
