Utah Valley University women's basketball coach Cathy Nixon has announced the hiring of a new assistant coach Danielle Cheesman.
Cheesman joins the coaching staff after spending the last three years playing in Switzerland, Greece, Latvia and Turkey. She served as a playercoach in Neuchatel, Switzerland.
"Danielle brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm and a great experience as a player with her, " said Nixon. "She's a great addition to our staff and is already working hard. Her experience at many different levels, including Division I and international, and her connections in Utah are great assets to our program."
Cheesman attended Mountain View High School in Orem where she was one of the top prep players in the country. She was named to Parade Magazine's All-American Team, first team All-American by ESPN, second team All-American by USA Today, the Utah Gatorade Player of the Year and Utah's Ms. Basketball as a senior in 2001 all while leading the Bruins to a no. 1 ranking in the nation and a national title.
After her storied high school career, Cheesman played collegiately at BY, where she earned a degree in Health Science & Public Health. As a player at BYU she helped the team to a 2002 Mountain West Conference championship and an NCAA Tournament run to the Sweet Sixteen. |
