They certainly grow 'em big in Texas.
Bryan offensive lineman Fono Vakalahi (6-4 340) has made an oral commitment to BYU. Vakalahi will be a senior at Bryan High this fall.
I remember talking to Robert Anae at a high school football combine several years ago, when he was still coaching at Texas Tech. He said if an offensive lineman wasn't at least 6-4 or 6-5, no team in the Big 12 would even look at him unless he was a monster. A few years later, BYU got a commitment from Ofa Mohetau (6-3 332), also from Texas and one of the top-rated offensive lineman in the country. Of course, Mohetau washed out of BYU and Texas Tech, mainly because of academics.
So who was after Vakalahi? He was on the recruiting radar at Baylor, Arizona State, Hawaii, Texas A&M and UTEP, with Baylor offering him. Looks like he was a BYU guy all the way.
Vakalahi, a two-star recruit according to Scout.com, is the 13th commitment for BYU's Class of 2009.
