Each week the Daily Herald will feature updates on the high school and junior college players the BYU football program is recruiting. Some players have already made oral commitments to BYU and others have been offered scholarships.

• D-E-F-E-N-S-E: While Timpview's offense was stuck in neutral, several BYU recruits made an impact defensively in a hard-fought 10-6 victory over Pleasant Grove on Aug. 22. Commit Craig Bills (6-foot-2, 202 pounds, S) made several big hits, including a touchdown-saving tackle on Pleasant Grove speedster LeSean Wilcox. Commit Bronson Kaufusi (6-6 220 DE) and recruits Chris Badger (6-0 183 S) and Xavier Su'a Filo (6-5 265 OL/DL) helped the Timpview defense hold PG without a score three times inside the 10-yard line.

• All Adam, all the time: Snow Canyon's Adam Timo (6-1 175), a three-star BYU commit, changed positions from running back to quarterback this season to get more touches. It worked -- Timo rushed 27 times for 198 yards and three touchdowns in Snow Canyon's tough 29-26 loss to East on Aug. 22. Timo broke a 60-yard touchdown run in the waning moments of the first half.

• Big play: Recruit Chris Washington (6-2 195 S/WR) made some big hits but also made the big catch, grabbing a 7-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left to lift Northridge to a 41-37 victory over Jordan. BYU commit Peni Maka'afi (5-11 215 RB) rushed 16 times for 63 yards and a touchdown for Northridge.

• Not enough: BYU commit Anthony Heimuli (5-11 225 RB) rushed for 184 yards on just 14 carries but Pine View came to Utah County and roughed up Mountain View, 28-6.

• The other guy: Hunter's Ryan Mulitalo (6-3 295 OL/DL) committed to BYU in July but the Cougars probably also had their eye on Davis sophomore quarterback Gavin Fowler. In his first start, Fowler ran for one touchdown and passed for another in his team's 27-0 shutout of Hunter. Fowler's father, Blaine, played quarterback at BYU in the 1980s and another son, Kellen, is a starting safety for BYU this season.
